Summary

ThoughCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies has proven to be a massive hit for Activision and Treyarch, it was not the first attempt at an open-world Zombies mode.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreakwas also quite successful, as though it lacked the loot grind and huge player count that has helped MWZ catch on, it had some other strengths that helped make it worthy of players’ time. In fact, some of these features would be great to see within MWZ, and they would make some phenomenal additions in Season 2 of the FPS.

Unmarked Side Activities For CoD Zombies Fans to Complete

WhileCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies’ DMZ stylesees it clearly marking contracts, Mercenary Camps, and other activities on the map once players have opened it, more unmarked activities like Outbreak offered would certainly be welcome. So long as they are not tied to Story Missions like MWZ’s frustrating Mercenary Convoys, having content like the Locked Chests, Dragon Rockets, and the Demented Echoes would be exciting. Something like the music mini quest that gives groups of players a puzzle to complete would also be a good touch.

If any one Outbreak side activity makes the most sense for MWZ, it is the Omega helicopters. Instead of Mercenary Helicopters only featuring in the Legacy Fortress andEscort contracts, they could randomly roam the map, and just like Outbreak they could drop valuable loot when destroyed.

Fishing To Give CoD Zombies Fans a Nice Break

As silly asCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s fishingwas, as it was another example of seemingly every game having a fishing mechanic, it was surprisingly fun to loot salvage drops, armor vests, and even Wonder Weapons from random fishing holes. In MWZ, perhaps someone like Barerra could want players to collect actual fish from the waters around the area to study the effects of aetherium on them, with each zone offering unique fish to collect. Weapons, gear, and grenades could still be fished out from time to time as well, with plenty of items able to be pulled from Urzikstan’s water.

Original Map Areas Exclusive to MWZ

Admittedly, Outbreak also reused areas constantly just like MWZ has been criticized for, but it did have one unique location during its first main quest. Near the end of the initialOutbreak Easter Egg quest, players entered a bunker on Ruka to complete a number of fun quest steps. The area looked and felt like somewhere players would see in a survival map, as it was built from the ground up for Outbreak. With even the Dark Aether location in MWZ being a reskinnedWarzonelocation, letting players teleport to one or two never-before-seen areas could help reviveCoDZombies’ heavily missed environmental storytelling.

Ordas Can Shake Up The MWZ Boss Battles

Though the secondAether Wormfight in particular has been a major challenge for MWZ players to overcome, especially those who prefer to explore Urzikstan on their own, players are concerned that more Worm battles would expose MWZ to the law of diminishing returns. Two fights against these creatures is plenty, so another boss fight could make a big difference in maintaining the mode’s longevity. Fortunately, Outbreak’s roaming Orda boss battle is perfect for MWZ. It could be made even better given the amount of players in the open world, as an even bigger Orda than normal with a gigantic health bar could require an entire lobby to move to its location and gun it down.

An Outbreak Survival Equivalent for MW

Lastly, it is worth looking at how enjoyable a survival mode for MWZ could be. Outbreak Survival saw players gathering food and water to replenish their health. There is no mini-map and players only spawn with a 1911, forcing them to scavenge for loot and properly explore their surroundings. This exact concept would be ideal for MWZ, especially if PvP was added to the mode, as players would need to communicate with others in their lobby to decide if they want to share resources, team up, or kill each other for loot. WithUrzikstanbeing huge and full of sellable items like canned food, removing the map and letting players loose to scavenge resources could make for an extremely uniqueCoDZombies experience.
