Since the release ofDemon’s Soulsback in 2009, theSoulslikegenre has taken the video game world by storm. From the gruesome, dark moods to the insanely difficult gameplay and epic boss battles, FromSoft has created a template that game developers have been more than happy to utilize to craft their own gritty worlds.
Although the style of game existed way before the launch of theSoulborneseries' games,FromSoftwarecan and should take the credit for making the genre what it is today. After all, dozens of games have been created that refer to theSoulsseries as inspiration, likeNiohorSalt and Sanctuary, and there are many more are in the works. As such, there are plenty of titles for gamers to be excited about.

Lies of P
Based on the fairy tale ofPinocchio,Lies of Pis an upcoming Soulslike game that takes a brutal spin on the story. From the trailers, the game looks to give a somewhat Grimm Brothers twist on Collodi’s classic tale and has anexperimental skill system unique to Soulslike games.
As the name suggests, players play a dark, broody Pinocchio. The puppet-come-alive goes on a journey that sees him hacking, slashing, and magic-blasting his way through a ‘Belle Epoque’ world as he tries to become a real boy.

No Place For Bravery
No Place For Braveryisa 2D soulslike gameby Glitch Factory filled with a top-down, pixel art style. Thron is a retired warrior who ambitiously roams a war-torn land in a journey of redemption to find his long-lost daughter. The old warrior is accompanied by his disabled foster son named Phid, who rides Thorn’s back similar to Grogu fromThe Mandalorian.
Described as ‘Sekiro-esque,’ players can expect to tackle not just unrelenting enemies, but also moral, game-changing choices in this action RPG. It’ll be interesting to see howNo Place For Braveryjuggles these gameplay aspects – hopefully more gameplay will come soon alongside a concrete release date.

Another Crab’s Treasure
Perhaps not as dark and gruesome as most other games in the genre,Another Crab’s Treasurewas announced at therecent Nintendo Indie World Showcase. Players control Kril the hermit crab in a colorful underwater world that’s filled with dark themes – pollution, corruption, thievery – as the little crab battles his way through creatures much larger than he to reclaim his repossessed shell.
On top of battling his way through the vast ocean landscape, Kril is also set to solve the mystery of the polluted ocean. Players will quest through lush kelp forests, deep chasms, and underwater caves, collecting valuable trash to aid them on their journeys.

Flintlock: Siege of Dawn
In a world where humanity is at war with the gods themselves,Flintlock: Siege of Dawntakes players to a bright yet barren desert land. The creators of the highly-successfulAshen, A44 Games, will be releasing yet another open-world RPG sprinkled with Soulslike vibes.
Flintlock’s protagonist is the axe, gun, and magic-wielding warrior Nor, and she is on a journey to determine the fate of humanity. By her side is Enki, a mysterious fennec fox-looking creature that is also gifted with magical abilities. Xbox Game Pass holders can rejoice, asFlintlockwill be available on day one.

Thymesia
Thymesiais the brain-child of British studioTeam17and promises fast-paced, punishing combat that is sure to keep players on their toes. The game is set in a gruesome kingdom turned hellscape where a reliance on alchemy backfired, with the streets now infested with brutal monsters. Players take the role of the ‘Corvus,’ a mysterious cloaked amnesiac who wears a plague mask and wileds powerful plague weapons and shape-shifting magic.
Alimited-time demo was available forThymesiaon Steam during the first week of May as a part of Steam’s ‘Going Rogue Festival.’ If the full game is anything like what people had to say about the demo, thenSoulslikefans are in for a real treat once it fully launches in a couple of months.
