One of the glaring omissions for many players inAEW Fight Forever’s roster has been the tag team of FTR, though the first DLC pack looks to remedy this as THQ Nordic and Yuke’s provide a proper look at the pair in-game. The game’s launch roster features several popular tag teams from the young wrestling promotion, most notably theYoung Bucksand Lucha Bros, both of whom have been with the company since it began in 2019. However, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have been main event players since arriving in AEW in 2020 and are now available in the new game.

AEW Fight Foreveris the debut video game from the almost 5-year-old promotion under the direction of developer Yuke’s, marking the first non-WWE video game the studio has made since 2007. AEW star Kenny Omega said the game is meant to harken back to wrestling games of the 90s, such asWWF No MercyandWCW/nWo Revenge, which provided a more arcade-style experience compared to the sim-style of the more recentWWE 2Kgames. The game features a career mode titled “Road to Elite,” character and arena creators, a myriad of weapons, and notable match types including Stadium Stampede and the Exploding Barbed-Wire Deathmatch.

The game’s launch roster of 48 featured a who’s who of current stars, legends, and even a former member of AEW inCody Rhodes, while Matt Hardy was available as a pre-order bonus and six more wrestlers will be added in subsequent DLC packs. FTR looks to be the first of these, with players getting a proper look at the pair in-game thanks to the newest spotlight trailer. The trailer shows Wheeler and Harwood employing some of the moves they are known for, most notably their Shatter Machine finisher, before confirming at the end of the trailer the pack is already available to download.

Heading into the game’s launch, FTR’s absence from the launch roster was one of many notable omissions from AEW’s massive roster of wrestlers. It was, in some cases, simply a case of some wrestlers joining the company late into the game’s production cycle and Yuke’s not having the time to add them. Other absences, such as FTR, players could argue were more measured to fill out the initial set of DLC packs, with the next two set to featureKeith Lee, The Bunny, Hook, and Danhausen.

It remains to be seen who else will join the game’s roster after all three initial DLC packs are released as Yuke’s has its veritable pick of the litter given the size of AEW’s roster. Stars such as Swerve Strickland,Buddy Matthews, Rush, Taya Valkyrie, and Athena are just a few of the names absent from the launch roster who could easily find their way into the game down the road.

AEW Fight Foreveris currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
