With the incredibly massive updateAmong Usreceived last month, it’s reasonable for some fans to think there wouldn’t be any new content coming for some time. However,at The Game Awards, it’s been revealed that this is not the case. With the help of Schell Games and Robot Teddy, the social deduction phenomenon is set to reach VR platforms in the future.

Among Uswas first made in 2018, but saw an incredible rise in popularity after the COVID-19 pandemic kept friends and family away from one another, and gamers sought a way to bridge that gap. It became the game almost everyone was playing, from streamers to kids, and this popularity led Innersloth to work towards future updates to improve the game for its ever-growing player base.

Now, players can look forward to being even closer with their crewmates in the world ofAmong Usthanks to the help of Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and SteamVR headsets. The announcement trailer showed everything fans can expect from VRAmong Us, including tasks and a cartoony landscape to run around in. While it seems the Skeld is the only map available thus far, other mapssuch as the Airshipmay be added in future updates.

The game seeks to capture the sameAmong Usexperience down to the number of players and even the game’s general aesthetics, and the trailer makes the concept of friends and family trying to figure out just who killed who look immensely entertaining. Along with only featuring one map, the game so far looks to feature the original Among Us roles, with no sign ofnewer roles like the Guardian Angelto be seen as of yet.

Even with only the base game features shown off so far, the game still holds promise as it seemingly captures what madeAmong Usfun in the beginning. While VR can be a tricky medium, much less moving a 2D game into 3D, somehow Innersloth’s cult hit fits perfectly, and plenty of fans are sure to be excited at the idea.

However, a multiplayer game likeAmong Ustransitioning to VR may come with plenty of downsides. Naturally, the game will need to feature some sort of online matchmaking feature, and playing in VR eliminates the need for text-based communication. With how searching for the imposter leads friends to betray each other very similar toMario Party, there is an opportunity for a new level of deception. Only time will tell when the game full hits virtual reality storefronts.

Among Usfor VR is currently in development for PC and PSVR.
