Goldie was one of the firstAnimal Crossingcharacters, and she has been in every title to date includingAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, which has breathed even more life into the character through fan art like this diorama project.
A Reddit user has garnered 3,900 upvotes on their impressive Goldie diorama that appears to grow out of a Nintendo DS Lite, with an image from the game on the top screen. Because the Nintendo DS Lite was succeeded by the Nintendo DSi and 3DS line of handhelds, many fans of the classic Nintendo console have traded their units for newer devices. Unlike Nintendo fans that have lost their DS Lites along the way, this Reddit user has recycled theirs to celebrate theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsdog villagerGoldie.

Reddit user Oops_deepdived recently shared a photo of their adorableAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsdiorama that centers on Goldie and uses a whiteNintendo DS Liteshell as a base. Between the small Goldie figure and the Nintendo DS are a pile of pebbles and various vegetation growing out of the bottom screen on the unit as if it were left outside to let nature take it over. A small pile of the same pebbles tops the X button, upon which a small orange tree has sprouted parallel to one in the main screen, with the top display clearly visible between the two.
With the small figure of Goldie safely tucked between the clutter used for the diorama, the screen above displays a scene that would feel familiar toAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans that look to the sky frequently. The top screen portrays a balloon carrying a present floating through a cloudy blue sky which is something that players could shoot down with aslingshot inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Although Goldie wouldn’t be able to shoot the balloon down in the games or with this diorama, the included visuals on the display help reflect the environment that the character would reside in as a lot of fan art does.
Given the incredible response to their Goldie diorama, Oops_deepdived confirmed that they sell their creations through Instagram, withthePokemonfranchisebeing another common focus of their art. According to the Reddit user, the Nintendo DS Lite wasn’t a functioning model which may help some retro gaming collectors appreciate the diorama a little more given that no electronics were destroyed to create it.
