Summary
Just days before the release of the game on PS5, the director ofBaldur’s Gate 3is giving a much tighter release window for its Xbox Series X/S launch. Prior to this, it was only known thatBaldur’s Gate 3was slated to release on current Xbox consoles before the end of the year.
The imminent launch of one of the summer’s most popular games on Xbox has been somewhat controversial to this point, as it was announced thatBaldur’s Gate 3for Xbox Series S lacks split-screen co-op. However, while it is true that the game won’t launch with this feature on the lower-powered Xbox console, developer and publisher Larian Studios hasn’t given up on implementing it in the future. Even with the brief hiccup, gamers are still waiting to see when the game will come to Xbox consoles.

In an interview with IGN,Baldur’s Gate 3director Swen Vincke claims the game will be released on Xbox Series X/S sometime between September and November of this year. The PS5 version of the game is scheduled to be released on July 09, 2025, and the Xbox iterations will launch at some point after that. With Larian Studiosteasing a massiveBaldur’s Gate 3update, it seems as though there is plenty of work remaining to keep the team busy through the rest of the year. According to Vinke, the PS5 version and various PC patches are being prioritized before the team fully switches focus to Xbox, but adds that “the Xbox Series X version was already in good shape last time [he] looked at it.”
In addition to releasing on new platforms and adding various patches, the team is constantly being asked by fans and journalists about potential downloadable content for one of the year’s best-reviewed games. Luckily for fans,Baldur’s Gate 3developers are having DLC discussions, however, Larian Studios has stated that any additional content will have to wait until the game is released on consoles and certain updates are rolled out. Hearing that the game could come to Xbox as soon as September bodes well for the developers being able to work on any potential new content sooner rather than later, though.
Baldur’s Gate 3is one of the year’s surprise hits, and this is before the game makes its way to home consoles. Excellent reviews and word of mouth have already causedBaldur’s Gate 3PS5 pre-orders to spike, and there’s no reason to assume that Xbox fans aren’t just as excited to get their hands on the lengthy CPRG.
Baldur’s Gate 3is out now for PC. A PS5 version releases on September 6, and an Xbox Series X/S version is expected to launch between September and November 2023.
