Dragon Ballis an anime that needs no introduction. The exploits of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and the other Z Warriors as they fought against universe-ending threats time and time again made for a great watch. The combination of great fights and awe-inspiring transformations turnedDragon Ballinto one of the biggest pop culture sensations that fans still quote and remember to this day, withDragon Ball Superfurther strengthening the legacy of this amazing series.
There are many memorable characters inDragon Ballthat fans love, with the series' female characters also getting their fair share of representation. Some of themost iconic femaleDragon Ballcharactersare ones that every fan adores for a bevy of reasons. While it’s true that female representation inDragon Ballhas been pretty lacking (a problem that plagues most mainstream anime), there’s no denying that Super has been a step in the right direction.

Updated August 03, 2025, by Rhenn Taguiam:WhileDragon Ball Daimahas concluded with a bomber of an ending, fans of theDragon Ballfranchise know there’s more to the series than just the historic rivalry between Goku and Vegeta as well as its slate of iconic villains. Beyond Super Saiyans and transformations are iconic female characters that sadly don’t get enough attention on screen. Thankfully, the series has finally introduced more compelling female characters for fans to get attached to. Among the series’ other iconic female characters include the only female officer of the Red Ribbon Army, as well asDaima’s central antagonists.
1Colonel Violet
The Only Confirmed Female Officer In The Red Ribbon Army
The world ofDragon Ballis made more dangerous by the presence of the Red Ribbon Army, a faction that was only laid to rest thanks to the efforts of Goku and his friends. Led by Commander Red throughout much of the Red Ribbon Army Saga, the Red Ribbon Army has featured many loyal subordinates, among whomColonel Violetserves as a member. While loyal to Commander Red, Colonel Violet is merciless towards her soldiers and is more interested in money.
Not much is known about Colonel Violet, as she’s only featured in two panels of the manga. In the anime, Colonel Violet demonstrates a callous disregard for the welfare of her soldiers and is seen stealing valuables from the Army’s vault during Goku’s siege — something she does smugly and in the presence of a security camera. It’s unfortunate that the series hasn’t seen Colonel Violet since then, considering she’s the only known female officer of the Red Ribbon Army. She’s evidently skilled, seeing as she managed to secure a Dragon Ball. This could make her presence in a futureDragon Ballseries interesting, as she’s among the few humans in the series known to be mercenaries.

2Angela
A Potential Gohan Love Interest
Prior to Videl entering Gohan’s life, the beginning arc of the Buu Saga had Teen Gohan mature into a chill guy old enough to attend Orange Star High School. It’s in this school where he meets the red-haired Angela, who instantly develops a crush on him. In fact, she blackmails Gohan into a date, telling him that she knew he wasthe Great Saiyamanall along. Left with no choice but to oblige, Gohan takes Angela on a date.
However, a misunderstanding leads Angela to believe that Gohan and Videl are a thing (which they vehemently deny), prompting Angela to leave him for someone else. It’s soon revealed that Angela’s real blackmail was seeing Gohan wear teddy bear underwear, and she didn’t know Gohan’s connection to the Great Saiyaman. Despite Angela’s short stint in the series, she could’ve developed into a worthwhile “it-girl” rival to the tomboyish Videl - a semblance of a “normal life” that Gohan never seemed to have a chance to obtain throughout the series. Regardless, Angela was still instrumental in pushing Gohan and Videl further into their “will they, won’t they?” stage.

3Gure
Tarble’s Gentle Wife
While technically a minor character in a 2008Dragon BallOVA,Gureis a welcome addition to theDragon Ballcast as among the few spouses to ever be acknowledged in the series. Not only that, Gure being a true extraterrestrial in terms of appearance makes her the first non-human (compared to Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Videl) and non-human-like (compared to Android 18) spouse directly related to a main character - in this case,Tarble the brother of Vegeta.
Gure’s arrival came with the shocking reveal from Vegeta that the relative “absence” of Tarble from his life stemmed from the fact that this younger brother was sent away for his “lack of battle talent.” Although one thing leads to another and the Z-Warriors suddenly engage Tarble’s pursuers in comical combat, the OVA ends with a jolly banquet - with the shy and meek Gure celebrating with her husband. Not much else is known about Gure, aside from the fact that her name is a pun of “gureepu” or the Japanese word for Grape.

4Marron
A Semblance Of Normalcy For The Z-Warriors
Compared to other children of the Z-Warriors such as Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Pan,Marronand Bulla were never pressured into training to fight. However, while Vegeta’s youngest Bulla was never shown to be training, her prowess inDragon Ball GTdemonstrated she at least had some familiarity with combat. This isn’tthe case with Marron, whose debut inDragon Ball Zwas that of a jolly girl who just wanted to support her parents, Krillin and Android 18, in their endeavors.
Marron remains iconic as she likely lived a normal life throughout the entirety of theDragon Ballseries. Surprisingly enough, it’s also interesting how Marron sounds just like Maron, who was Krillin’s first girlfriend. While it’s not specified whether Krillin named Marron after his ex, this similarity was still referenced inDragon Ball Super.Android 18 becomes visibly upset when Android 17 mispronounced Marron’s name.

5Aeos
Capable Of Controlling Time Itself
While Chronoa is the better-known Supreme Kai of Time, it was actually her teacher,Aeos, who showed her the ropes. Whereas Chronoa wanted to create divergent timelines to show different possible futures, Aeos is cold and distant. She prefers to maintain a “correct” history, as these divergences and the villains they potentially contain must be destroyed at all costs. It was in fact because Aeos saw a “great evil” in the future that she wanted to use the Super Space-Time Tournament to whittle the “unnecessary” timelines so only the grand future she envisioned would be left.
Aeos and her willingness to put innocent lives on the line for the sake of a “perfect timeline” (especially when paired with her initial destructive attitude) can make her similar to other villains such as Zamasu, who was also disillusioned by his “divine” purpose. However, when she finally encounters this “great evil” in the form of Dark King Demigra, Aeos teams up with Chronoa and the Time Patrol to stop the threat. It’s not often thatDragon Ballfans encounter a badass female character, and Aeos being the former Supreme Kai of Time herself means she’s at a whole different level.

6Chronoa
The Supreme Kai In Charge Of Time
Whereas the Kai ofDragon Ballonly supervises a part of the universe, the Supreme Kai is in charge of protecting a particular universe. When the idea of the Multiverse was introduced inDragon Ball Super, it made sense for someone likeChronoato exist - a Supreme Kai in charge of the timestream. Appearing first inSuper Dragon Ball Heroesand appearing as a major character in theXenoverseseries, Chronia hasn’t made an appearance in the core series yet. However, her presence in the promotionalSuper Dragon Ball Heroesseries still positions her as among the most powerful individuals in the series.
Throughout these spinoff titles,Chronoa has created the Time Patrolspecifically to stop the Dark Empire from rampaging across timelines. While friendly (and also a terrible cook and housekeeper), Chronoa is no slouch. Being a Core Person, Chronoa has access to Godly Ki and magic. Base Chronoa can freeze time around someone as powerful as Base Mira, while her Power of Time Unleashed lets control time itself - allowing her to banish the likes of Mechikabura. Being the Supreme Kai of Time, Chronoa can travel through time and may even perform drastic moves such as a timeline erasure.

7Android 18
A Villain Who Eventually Joins The Z Warriors As Krillin’s Wife
Android 18 initially appeared asa dastardly antagonistthat was set on destroying the entire world. However, Krillin’s affection for her led to the android turning a new leaf and settling down with this Z Fighter instead.
She’s been in the background for most of the series but can still hold her own in battle when the situation calls for it. That being said, her responsibilities as a mother have reduced her fighting role in the series even more.

8Bulma
A Major Character Who’s Been With Goku Since The Very Start Of Dragon Ball
Bulma is one of the most iconic characters inDragon Ball. It’s her fateful meeting with Goku that kickstarts the events of the series andplaces Goku in the middle of so many predicaments and fights.
Bulma is a genius who has built many helpful contraptions for the Z Warriors throughout the series. While she might be a bit too self-absorbed for her own good, fans of the series still love her to death for injecting some much-needed energy into the events ofDragon Ball.

9Gine
Goku’s Mother
While it was confirmed a long time ago that Bardock was Goku’s father, the information surrounding his mother was pretty barebones. It wasn’t until the release ofDragon Ball Minusthat fans finally got their first look at Gine, a Saiyan who is Goku’s mother and a pretty compassionate one to boot. Perhaps this is where Goku got his kindness from.
The way these two characters bid farewell to their son at the start ofDragon Ball Super: Brolymoments before Frieza wipes out their entire planet is an emotional moment that adds more weight to the events of the story. While Broly’s character is undoubtedly the highlight of this movie, this shouldn’t take away from the impact that Gine had in her brief yet eye-opening screen time.

10Hop
A Member Of Universe 9’s Team In The Tournament Of Power
There are many powerful warriors introduced during the Tournament of Power, hailing from different universes who try their hardest to save their worlds from being erased. One of the characters from Universe 9 who gets into a protracted confrontation with Vegeta is Hop, a humanoid character with cat-like features who uses her claws to damage enemies.
Despite making rather brief appearances, Hop is still a decent character who keeps things interesting for the most part during the Tournament of Power. She may not be the focal point of this tournament but still gets a few good hits in before her Universe is eventually erased from existence by Zeno.
