Thanksgivingis the newest film from director Eli Roth. He’s known for his horror films likeHostelandThe Green Infernowhich pushed the boundaries on gore effects. His latest film is no different despite the concept seeming a little silly along with the title.
Thanksgivingbegins on the actual holiday when a Black Friday early-day sale goes wrong. People die and then a year later a killer emerges who promises to get revenge on what happened that day. Revenge for who? Also, who is this masked maniac? All will be answered in the film but let’s focus on the more authenticslasher horror movie vibesfirst via the kills. Here are the best kills in order.
8Amanda Collins
Shopping Cart To The Head
Amanda Collins is the first big victim of the movie which kicks off the killer’s motives tobecome a slasher. The chaos of Black Friday causes Amanda to fall over as wild people are trying to get deals on, of all things, waffle makers.
So, Amanda inevitably gets a shopping cart to the head thus knocking her out. That wouldn’t be so bad but it’s the part after that is truly gruesome. The wheel on the cart starts to pull her hair out which in turn rips off the skin, giving viewers a clear indication of what kind of horror movie they are about to see.
7Lizzie
Cut In Half By A Dumpster
Lizzie is one of the characters from the Black Friday massacre who was absolutely nasty to people in the store. Outside of her shopping life, she is a waitress at a local diner. Upon closing up for the night, she gets attacked by the slasher.
He first dunks her in water and then sticks her to a freezer door. Lizzie manages to free herself by ripping off her cheek skin which looks painful. She’s not free for long as she gets cut in half minutes later when a dumpster lid closes on her. If this doesn’t make the mouths of horror fans gasp in the theater, nothing will.
6Manny
Beheaded
On the night of the RightMart Black Friday massacre, Manny runs away when things get too chaotic. As a security guard, he was there to keep the peace but he failed in that effort which led to a coworker being trampled to death. Of all the kills in Thanksgiving, Manny has one of the lighter sentences.
The killer lobs off his head with a clean razorwire like the killer is trying to do his bestAgent 47 from theHitmanseries. Also, the killer shows some dignity in this moment and feeds Manny’s cat before taking off with his head in a duffle bag. It’s always nice to see animals not get hurt in a horror movie.
5Amy And Lonnie
The deaths of Amy and Lonnie are tied intimately together for a few reasons. The two go off to have a private prep rally together in the gym wherein Amy tries to show off her trampoline skills. In the process, the killer sneaks up behind Lonnie and twists his head completely around. Then, he cuts the heels of Amy as she is bouncing on the trampoline.
The wild thing about this scene is that Amy survives. She doesn’t die until she gets her blood siphoned out of her neck like a human wine bottle at dinner.
4Yulia
Corn Picked And Sawed
Yulia’s attack starts with two corn pickers being shoved into her ears. It’s the type of attack that will make anyone squirm ina horror movie. Thanksgiving does a clever edit after this by muting the sound as if the audience is hearing what Yulia does.
As painful as it looks, the corn pickers didn’t kill her but the buzz saw in the garage sure did. Her abdomen gets turned into a pile of sausages in an instant and it is not a pretty sight.
3Parade Driver
Shipped To Death?
Despite all of the deaths in town, Plymouth still decides to have its annual parade. Things begin well, but eventually, the killer disrupts the peace by beheading a random citizen who is dressed like a turkey. They then toss out smoke grenades which creates a cavalcade of disasters.
Of the many, the worst death resulting in this chaos happens to an unnamed character who gets a bowsprit lodged into their skull. For those unaware, a bowsprit is that long pole on the front of old ships like the ones players can sail inAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
2Kathleen
Boom, Roasted
Kathleen has a horrific death to be sure, but honestly, it could have looked worse onThanksgiving. She gets captured and basted like a turkey before being shoved in an oven to be cooked alive. When she comes out, she looks tan and thankfully not as putrid as a cooked human would probably look.
The nastiest part about this death is that the killer tries to feed a slice of Kathleen to her husband. As a director, Eli Roth is certainly not afraidto show cannibalism.
1Evan
Virally Hammered
The final kill of the movie happens to Evan. The killer takes a meat grinder and pounds his head in on a live feed. The killer says he got this idea after Evan put out that viral stream of the Black Friday massacre. The oddest part of this scene is that the stream actually gets a lot of likes.
The question then is, who is watching this murder live? Do they think this is a fake show, or does this murderer have a group of killers he associates with like some kind of evil league of holiday killers?The streaming culturein this movie is wild overall.
