Borderlands 3players are anxious for more new content and DLC 4 sits tantalizing on the horizon. Considering how active Gearbox has been in the near-full year sinceBorderlands 3’s launch, the recent quiet has been surprising. But Gearbox has just been waiting for the opportunity - an opportunity that seems to be approaching. Gearbox has now shared a brand new teaser forBorderlands 3’s upcoming unnamed DLC 4, hinting at a bigger announcement to come next week.
While relatively little is known about DLC 4, one big specific detail is all but certain. That being thatKrieg, the playable DLC character fromBorderlands 2, plays a major role in the upcoming content. The new teaser image forBorderlands 3’s upcoming content reconfirms that. It features Krieg himself sitting in a meditation pose, floating in a strange dimension. There are also several odd Krieg sound effects and flashing sequences, perhaps revealing glimpses of the upcoming DLC’s settings.

But the most important bit of the teaser came at the very end. A final placard says “Borderlands 3 Campaign DLC 4 Full Reveal August 25.” This is just a teaser for next week’s big unveiling ofDLC 4. If it’s anything like previous DLC reveals,Borderlands 3players should expect the DLC’s name, a release date or window, as well as some gameplay and a list of new features. Gearbox could go further and over a deep dive into gameplay, but that typically comes at a later date.
The teaser trailer does seemingly confirm one further detail which has been a matter of leaks and speculation. That being that DLC 4 forBorderlands 3will revolve around going intoKrieg’s fractured mindor something similar. Given the fractures shown when Krieg grunts in pain during the teaser, it’s difficult to read it any other way. That said, Gearbox appears to be getting very creative, so who knows what exactly might be in the works.
DLC releases forBorderlands 3have been consistently released every three months sinceBorderlands 3’s launch. It appears that Gearboox remains on schedule to deliver DLC 4 at a similar tempo. Three months after DLC 3, Bounty of Blood would be in September. DLC releases also tend to be released late in the month, so a September 17 or 24 launch or something similar seems likely. Perhaps Gearbox will surprise players and launch DLC 4 sooner, though.
This will be the final DLC released forBorderlands 3as part of the game’s current Season Pass. There’s always the possibility that Gearbox announces asecond Season Pass, though. The DLC releases have certainly seemed successful, but Gearbox could have other plans.Borderlands 3players will just have to wait to find out what’s coming next, for DLC 4 and beyond.
Borderlands 3is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
