Summary
Some fans have recently taken to social media to bemoan time to kill (TTK) inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Their complaints are yet another example ofplayer criticism thatModern Warfare 3has incurredsince its November 10 release.
Much like its name implies, time to kill is a derived stat that denotes how long a givenCall of Dutyweapon takes to down an enemy combatant. As such, it largely depends on two base stats: damage and fire rate, or rounds per minute (RPM) in the series' jargon. That’s the theory, at least; in practice, someModern Warfare 3players have started criticizing the game’s TTK during beta, describing it as everything from annoyingly long to frustratingly inconsistent.

Those grievances haven’t gone away with the shooter’s full-fledged release. On the contrary, a vocal subset of the fandom continues to bemoan the game’s TTK on social media, arguing that it significantly detracts from the overall gameplay experience. One such opinion that recently hit the front page of the largestModern Warfare 3subreddit went as far as to proclaim that the unpredictable time to kill completely “ruins” gunfights. That take, shared by Reddit user nickbarbanera1, also posited that TTK inconsistencies appear to be partially caused by bad hit detection, which itself might stem from connectivity issues.
Many Players Still Appear To Be Fine With MW3 TTK As Is
Other players chiming in on the ensuing discussion opined that some of the new TTK problems could be explained by Sledgehammer failing to buffMW2weapons to account for the Operator health increase inMW3. For reference, the non-Hardcore multiplayer modes in other recentCall of Dutyentries gave players 100 HP, whileModern Warfare 3raised their health pool to 150. That notwithstanding, most of the recent Reddit threads criticizing the game’s time to kill have fairly high comment-to-upvote ratios, which is usually indicative of controversial topics, and hence suggests that many players are still fine with theMW3TTK as is.
Fans Can Avoid Longer Time to Kill by Playing Modern Warfare 3 Hardcore Mode
It is currently unclear whether Sledgehammer intends to tweak the game’s TTK with future updates. In the meantime, there’s technically already a way to circumvent this aspect of the newly released shooter, which is to play theModern Warfare 3Hardcore mode. Doing so does come at the expense of losing most of the HUD, meaning players can’t take advantage of series staples like the minimap and ammo counter. However, Hardcore offers a much faster-paced gameplay experience, not least because of its significantly reduced time to kill.
Less spongy enemies aren’t the only benefit that this mode bestows upon the players; Hardcore kills also reward much more XP, making this mode the ideal option forgrinding weapon camos inModern Warfare 3. As for its reduced TTK, that feature mostly stems from the fact that Hardcore Operators have only 30 HP instead of 150.
