While it may not be in the best state right now, what with the backlash to theCall of Duty: WarzonePacific mapand the general apathy aimed atCall of Duty: Vanguard, there’s no denying thatCall of Dutyis a juggernaut franchise. And while it may not be quite as hot as it once was, that could very well change later this year as Activision plans on launching the highly-anticipated sequel to 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In its Q1 financial report, Activision offered some additional, albeit vague, insight into its plans for 2022’sCall of Dutygame. The 2022Call of Duty, as previously announced, will be a sequel to 2019’sCall of Duty:Modern Warfare, itself the biggest game in theCall of Dutyfranchise to date. Activision is hyping the new game as being the “most advanced"Call of Dutygame that its ever produced, and needless to say, it will be exciting to see what exactly that entails.

TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfaresequelisn’t the onlyCall of Dutygame on the horizon that Activision touched on in its report. It also mentioned that there will be a new free-to-playWarzoneexperience for players to check out as well, one that is being “built from the ground-up alongside the premium game.” ThisCall of Duty: Warzonesequel is said to have “groundbreaking innovations” that will be revealed later this year.
There have been rumors thatCall of Duty: Warzone 2will be next-gen only, leaving the originalWarzoneexperience on PS4 and Xbox One, though that has yet to be clarified. Activision has promised a proper reveal later this year, though the language in the financial report does seem to leave room for the possibility that this newWarzonewill not actually launch this year alongside the 2022Call of Dutygame. The originalWarzonelaunched a few months afterCall of Duty: Modern Warfaredid, so fans will just have to stay tuned for more information on that front.
Meanwhile, there’s also theCall of Duty: Warzonemobile experience to look forward to, though Activision didn’t have much to share about that particular game. It simply confirmed that it is still working on bringingCall of Duty: Warzoneto mobile, so that’s something else fans will have to wait for more information on. But while Activision itself has not announced its plans forCall of Duty: Warzoneon mobile, reputable leakers have said that it will likely see thereturn of the beloved Verdansk battle royale map.
