Call of Duty: Warzone 2is coming out this November, and it will be bringing a major change to the Gulag when it arrives. Today’s Call of Duty NEXT event delivered in providing fans with theirfirst proper look atWarzone 2, and in doing so, it confirmed that this time fallen players won’t be fighting to get back into the action alone.
When it was first introduced withWarzone’s launch back in 2020, the Gulag offered a fresh twist to the battle royale formula. Rather than just wait for their teammates to revive them or the match to end, downed players inWarzonecan face off against each other in the Gulag for a chance to revive themselves, giving them more agency and something to do in the downtime. TheGulag has changed a few times since then, usually to tie in with each year’s newCall of Dutytitle, but it has kept its one-on-one duel structure.

That’s changing with the next game, however. WithCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s new Al Mazrah mapcomes a brand new 2v2 Gulag, which Activision describes as a “livefire training complex as well as a prison.” This larger multi-level arena will give players more room to find loot and fight it out, which should better suit the increased player count per match.
In an added twist, AI enemies will also appear inWarzone 2’s Gulag, giving players another option for achieving freedom besides defeating the other team. They can take on the heavily-armed Jailer to use his keys to escape if they manage to defeat him, but they’ll have to be on the lookout for the Juggernaut that will appear if the match goes on for too long. Taking a little more time may be worth the risk, though, because Activision says players that win their matches will keep any loot they find.
Al Mazrah looks set to offerWarzone 2players a dense battleground to duke it out on, boasting 18 points of interest spread across the largestCall of Dutybattle royale map yet. Players can look forward to a range of brand-new areas along with locations inspired byclassicCall of Dutymaps. With such a vast map, players will no doubt find plenty of ways to end up in the Gulag, and with the new 2v2 structure, getting out of there should prove to be more hectic than ever before.
