Call of Duty: Warzonehas a highly requested feature which has been the source of a lot of controversy: Cross-play. Though for a long time gamers begged the industry for cross-play, manyconsole players turned cross-play off to escape cheaters on PC. Now it seems there may be another reason to do so.
The debate about whether or not console players are at a disadvantage compared to PC players has been long running and isn’t exclusive toCall of Duty: Warzone, but a new video proves that there is some disadvantage, and this can’t be fixed by any setting in the game’s menu.

On PC, players are able toadjust the Field of View(FOV) to their liking. A higher FOV allows players to see more but sacrifices some accuracy, while a low FOV will limit players' vision substantially. On the console versions of the game, however, FOV is locked in place.
The video above showcases why this is a problem. In the first half of the clip, the player on console starts heading up the building before getting gunned down by an opponent off screen. The second half shows the same thing from a PC player’s perspective, and one can clearly see the enemy at the top of the building. The two exchange sentiments of disbelief, with the PC player initially being surprised that their console friend didn’t see the enemy before realizing that theissue comes down to FOV.
FOV on console is locked at 60, which is severely limited compared to the 120 FOV that PC players can use (although this severely affects aiming accuracy). Although many might suggest to simply turn cross-play off, that isn’t an option for those that want to play with their friends across platforms, and it shouldn’t be the solution anyway. What’s more,Xbox One players can’t turn cross-play offinWarzoneexcept by doing so through the system settings, a move which results in incredibly long lobby waiting times. It seems that Activision and Infinity Ward should just allow FOV to be adjusted on console as well.
The main reason this isn’t an option is performance. Older versions of the current generation console can’t handle higher FOVs without falling below30 frames per second, so the option isn’t allowed. Still, it seems like some would prefer at least having the choice to change it, but at the moment there’s nothing players can do.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
