In a Q1 2024 earnings report, the CD Projekt Group revealed that it had zero developers working onCyberpunk 2077as of April 30. CD Projekt Red, the company’s development arm, has shifted its focus to the popular RPG’s sequel codenamedProject Orion,Cyberpunk 2077Game Director Gabe Amatangelo said in an interview that was published in March. Not much is known about the upcoming title aside from the fact that it is in the early stages of development, but CD Projekt Red seemingly does not want people to forget that it still has moreCyberpunkcontent in store for fans.

“Cyberpunk’s not dead,“Project OrionCreative Director Igor Sarzynski said in a recent Twitter post. In addition toCyberpunk 2077, Sarzynski previously worked on 2015’sThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which has become one of thebest-selling video games of all time. He is now part of CD Projekt Red’s Boston studio, working alongside Amatangelo and other industry veterans like former Blizzard Entertainment Lead Product Manager Dan Hernberg and ex-IO Interactive Gameplay Director Ryan Barnard.
There were plenty of positive reactions to Sarzynski’s tweet, with one Twitter user commenting that theCyberpunknation was still alive. Another user, meanwhile, asked for any concept art of CD Project Red’s next project to be revealed. In January, Sarzynski fueled the hype train forProject Orionafter he boldly claimed thatCyberpunk 2077was just a warm-up.

Despite going through a rocky launch in late 2020 that involved all sorts of technical issues,Cyberpunk 2077was recognized for its mature narrative, immersive setting, and impressive visuals. The game has become much more stable thanks to numerous updates, and it has even sold more than 25 million copies. Meanwhile,Cyberpunk 2077’sPhantom LibertyDLC is now considered to be one of thebest single-player RPG expansionsever released. The base game has received several video game award nominations as well, and it managed to bag a win at the most recent British Academy Games Awards.
