Critical Role: Tales of Exandria ll – Artagan Issue #1hits store shelves starting January 3, but ahead of then, fans can get a look at five pages from the comic exclusively from Game Rant. As many no doubt know, the Tales of Exandria miniseries focuses on a specific NPC character that has appeared inCritical Role campaigns like Vox Machina, with Artagan getting four issues next year.
Artagan once traveled with Vox Machina while posing as the satyr Garmelie before eventually being revealed as anArchfey from the Feywild, a minor deity known as The Traveler. Artagan’s series, consisting of four issues, focuses on his time in court, explaining to the Seelie and Unseelie how he’s influenced the various realms. His pride in that may be challenged by various witnesses, with possibly dire consequences.
As anyone who’s ever played aDungeons and Dragonscampaignshould know, the Fey are not to be trusted. But the panels below see a group of people trusting Artagan to reveal the truth to them. He acknowledges, proudly, how he’s helped these people. He talks about how they have welcomed him as family and that family is something that should always remain strong together. And, with someone calling him a deceiver from the crowd, he acknowledges many may not always believe him before he steps to “reveal” his diety to the various followers.
Interestingly, it’s worth noting how tightly-knit the gutters are between panels on pages one and three before being opened up and exposed with the white on page four. That likely reinforces the narrative of what’s coming, the break between the normal folks and the Fey, before the gutters tighter once more on the final page. As to what comes next and how Artagan ultimately gets hauled before the court remains to be seen, but with plenty ofCritical Role loreto unpack, an interesting art direction, and what seems like a little fun on each page, many are no doubt looking forward toCritical Role: Tales of Exandria ll – Artagan Issue #1.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Critical Role story without a handful of familiar names likewriter Sam Maggs, artist Aviv Or, and colorist Cris Peter. This first issue also features a special cover by Toby Sharp.
Critical Role: Tales of Exandria II-Artagan #1is available for pre-order for #3.99 at various comic shops and stops ahead of its January 3 release date.
