Summary
Daniel Radcliffe was subject to a rumor that he would be playing gruffX-Menicon Wolverine, originating from a rather bizarre place. Congratulations to everyone else who also just discovered the rumor at this very moment.
Even withoutRadcliffe’s rumored Wolverine casting, he seems to have achieved the enviable goal of being that one actor who takes whatever projects look fun. After becoming a household name as a child star, much of that celebrity was leveraged into some delightfully bizarre roles. But while the idea of him playingX-Men’s Wolverine feels just barely out of the realm of plausibility, even for him, it also wouldn’t exactly be the most outlandish thing he’s done. Just look atSwiss Army Manfor something more fitting of that title.

A little while back, rumors began to swirl about Radcliffe possibly playing Wolverine, and it apparently stemmed from people noticing the actor becoming oddly buff.Vanity Fairdecided to get to the bottom of things, and what better way to do so than with a whole actual lie detector? “No,” he replied definitively when asked whether he started the Wolverine rumor. But then, actress Lindsay Mendez (who was taking part in the interview with Radcliffe and Jonathan Goff) offered a follow-up question, “So you just got buff for no reason?” At this point, Radcliffe showed everyone the endearing goof he is.
“Yes!” Radcliffe answered with a genuinely amused laugh. “I got buff because I am obsessive, and I want to…you’ve seen my parents, they’re like insane fitness people. So that’s just been passed on…but no, no Wolverine. Flattered, but no.“Radcliffe donning horns for an underrated horror mysterywasn’t the only way he likes to change things up. That’s right, the man who played a dirt-eating angel onMiracle Workersand a programmer with guns bolted to his hands inGuns Akimbojust felt like bulking up. As whims go, that’s probably as tame as he gets.
But that wasn’t the onlyburning question fans needed to ask Radcliffe. Many know that he andLord of the Ringsstar Elijah Wood have shared an interesting bond, having been mistaken for each other. Naturally, Radcliffe is also aware. “I think that me and Elijah Wood, the idea of us is the same,” he said when asked if he could see the resemblance. “We are both short, pale, brown-haired actors with blue eyes. But we don’t actually look that alike when we’re next to each other, but just like conceptually, we are the same.” He then admitted he thinks it’s funny, but added, “I imagine he would get annoyed that people mistook him for me once, because I was a 12-year-old child when he was playing Frodo and that would have been annoying.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Radcliffe made one more admission during this line of questioning. When asked whether he’s ever told people he’s Wood, he revealed, “No, but I have signed photos of him.” Between moments like that andRadcliffe speaking out against J.K. Rowling’s transphobia, this man has earned his status as a pretty cool dude.
