The Nintendo Switch has certainly made itself a haven for indie titles over the past few years, and repeatedly puts a focus on new and upcoming games withNintendo Indie World. Nadiris a dark JRPG that is directly inspired by Dante’sDivine Comedy. InNadir, players control a team of three powerful but flawed characters representing the deadly sins. So far, these are known as The Poet, The Leader, and The Virgin. There are multiple ways to customize each character’s skills to use in the game’s turn-based combat. Players descend through the hellish city of Nadir withprocedurally generated mapsto reach a mysterious power at the bottom.
The art style is especially unique, and many players might pick up the game just to see it in action. Frank Miller’sSin Cityand Mike Mognola’sHellboyare apparently big inspirations for the monochromatic scheme. Theart and atmosphere of horror gamesis incredibly important, so hopefullyNadirwill be able to accurately reflect the grittiness of all the fire and brimstone present in Dante’sInferno.
Another special aspect to this game is the developer’s plan to provide extensive modding support. While players may not get as invested asthe modders for the immenseSkyblivionmod forSkyrim, the developers look forward to seeing what fans create.
WhileNadiris looking to have a 2021 release, Shockwork Games has said it plans to only release the game when it’s ready. Considering thatAlder’s Bloodwas seemingly well-received, players may have high hopes forNadir. For fans who look to have more mature titles to play on the Nintendo Switch, this might just be a game to follow.
