Summary
The Daughters of Libertyare rumored to be the next Marvel Comics team to join theMCU.Over a decade too late, this would mark the MCU’s first fully-female-fronted superhero team.
Since Marvel first rounded up its first crime-fighting team with the 2012 filmThe Avengers, female representation in theMCUhas been sadly lacking. For the most part, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) was the only consistent female character of note to be in a leadership role. And even when she was given her own film, theMCU made the mistake of makingBlack Widowafter she was already dead canonically. And when a large group of women is together, it is usually only a pandering scene for about 10 seconds, as inAvengers: Endgame.

An all-female team is more than ready to debut, and rumors indicate it will happen sooner rather than later. According to@MyTimeToShineHon Twitter, a new superhero team comprised of all women is imminent. “They’re coming to the MCU #DaughtersOfLiberty,” the insider posted with a comic panel of the characters who would presumably be in a live-action adaptation. This may surprise fans who were expecting A-Force to be the MCU’s first all-female team.
True to their name, the Daughters of Liberty are most concerned with freedom. An American concept through and through, the team stretched back as early as colonial times when this sisterhood of sorts first began. Trained in combat and magic, the Daughters of Liberty fought against oppression for centuries before the modern era. This organization is where Peggy Carter got her start, though any live-action adaptation will likely stray from that point. A Daughters of Liberty excursion will probably feature Peggy’s niece,Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, a character who has been underutilized in the MCU thus far.
With brief appearances in an awkward relationship with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and her strange power broker plot line inThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sharon desperately needs her own story. Other possible members in the current version of the MCU could be Misty Knight and Bobbi Morse. Misty had a short run on the Netflix series of Marvel shows before being sadly canceled. SinceCharlie Cox is reprising his role inDaredevil: Born Again, this could be a chance for Misty to return. Conversely, Bobbi Morse also appeared inAgents of SHIELD, which had a fluid relationship with Marvel canon.
But judging how theThunderboltsroster is shaking out, it’s more likely that the Daughters of Liberty could feature none of these characters. The cast list of theThunderboltsfilm does not entirely match up to the comic lineup, especially with the apparent absence of Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl). Last featured inThe Falcon and the Winter Soliderminiseries, Zemo has not appeared in any promotional material, even though he is the famous leader of the Thunderbolts in the Marvel canon. Knowing theMCU, they may play fast and loose with whatever team-up theDaughters of Libertywill have.
