Summary

Crossovers have become a staple of modern-day pop-culture. While superhero comics and various popular movie IPs have been crossing over for decades, it’s only been in the last decade or so thatlarge-scale media crossovershave become the norm across all entertainment mediums, including video games. If a game is popular enough, and a collaboration makes sense, it’s become pretty standard that fans will receive some kind of crossover in the near-future, and that’s been exactly the case forDead by Daylight.

WhileFortniteis often referred to as the hub of all things pop-culture in the gaming space,Dead by Daylighthas become the home of horror, crossing over with a plethora of iconic horror franchises, fromHalloweentoSawtoAlien, and a good few in between. But while 12 crossover Killers are already fully playable inDead by Daylight, there’s one holiday-themed Killer that still deserves a spot on the roster.

Released in 1984,Gremlinswas a pretty huge hit, both financially and critically. Subverting classic holiday movie tropes and satirizing the holiday season as a whole in an endearingly dark and charming way,Gremlinsis still viewed as one ofthe best Christmas movies of all time. But despite its adorable lead Mogwai, Gizmo,Gremlinsisn’t quite a kids' movie. Though it takes a little while before they’re fully formed, once the Gremlins are unleashed on the town of Kingston Falls, all hell lets loose, with the titular monsters going on a murder spree. Because of this, the Gremlins would actually make for some great tongue-in-cheekDead by DaylightKillers, especially during this holiday season.

The vast majority ofDead by Daylight’s crossover Killers all follow the same general gameplay structure. MostDead by Daylightcrossover Killers are played from a first-person perspective, have a melee weapon in hand, and have an ability based on the source material they’re from. The recentChild’s PlayKiller, Chucky, doesn’t quite follow those same rules, instead being played from a third-person perspective with the player technically controlling the doll’s spirit.

Chucky proves that smaller Killers can work inDead by Daylight, and that paves the way for aGremlinscrossover. Players could control the Gremlins' leader, Stripe, as he uses his signature speed to dash through the game’s various Realms. Rather than a basic melee attack, Stripe could have a pounce attack that requires the player to charge a jump, and land on a Survivor in order to blind them momentarily and put them in an Injured state.

Being the leader of the Gremlins, it would also make complete sense for Stripe’s ability to revolve around the rest of his monstrous, murderous crew. Stripe’s ability could see him place Gremlins around the map, getting them to hide in generators or lockers, only to spring out and take a Survivor by surprise when triggered. Much likeThe Hag’s ability, this could alert the player to the Survivor’s position, but rather than being able to teleport directly to them, Stripe would need to manually make his way there, with the Gremlin distracting the Survivor until his arrival. To give the Survivors a slight edge, Gizmo could be included as a new Item, strapped to their chest and visible throughout the game, warning players of any imminent Gremlin attacks.
