A little over a month ago, Bungie claimedDestiny 2would receive an even more challenging Nightfall difficulty duringSeason of the Worthycalled Grandmaster. At the time, the developer gave no significant details as to what the mode would be like. But now, with the latest issue of TWAB, Bungie finally explains what players can expect out of the difficulty, and it’s pretty interesting.

First off, Grandmaster Ordeal will be the final and hardest difficulty of theNightfall: The Ordealplaylist. Bungie describes it as the ultimate test of fireteam coordination, communication, builds, and skill — one that even exceeds Raid events.

In fact, Bungie claims it took inspiration fromRaid activitieswhen creating Grandmaster, specifically from the Crown of Sorrows, which introduced Contest mode. The Contest modifier negates any advantages players would gain from having Power Levels higher than what’s necessary to enter the activity, which in Grandmaster’s case would be 1025. Bungie also revealed that while the 1025 Power Level cap is 15 higher than the Pinnacle cap, the Grandmaster difficulty will reach up to 1050 – 25 levels higher than what players will have access to.

When developing Grandmaster, Bungie states it made sure to take into account the feedback received from the other difficulty modes in the Nightfall playlist. As a result,Grandmasterwill:

Bungie will also introduce new and familiar modifiers to theNightfallactivity through this difficulty. “Extinguish” will be the one veteran players are familiar with. It forces the entire fireteam back to orbit if they wipe during the event, meaning they’ll have to start it all over from the beginning when they try it again.

The mode will also force “Limited Revives,” which, as the name implies, will only grant players a limited number of revives. However, players will be able to earn more revives by killing Champions. There will apparently be other modifiers too, but in order to find out what they are, players will have to wait until July 21, 2025, when the difficulty actually arrives inDestiny 2.

However, Bungie did note that beating each new Grandmaster strike at least once during the Season: Conquer would net players a new seal and title.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
