Destiny 2’s New Skimmer Sparrow Is A Must-Have Item
From its cosplay and fashion potential to newgame-breaking opportunities provided by the new Skimmer, this vehicle has quickly become a new must-have forDestiny 2players. The skimmer is also one of the few new things for this year’s Guardian Games, so it’s become many players’ prime motivation to play the 2024 Guardian Games. However, it can be extremely difficult to obtain this vehicle, which has put players in a tough position.
Exclusivity andFOMO inDestiny 2has always been a major issue for the game. Yet as much as it gets criticized,Destiny 2continues to feature content that promotes FOMO as an effective strategy to motivate its playerbase. With the grind to get the new Skimmer, things have reached an all-new extreme. Instead of setting a troubling precedent, future Seasonal Events inDestiny 2should learn from this opportunity and avoid making this mistake with future items in the game.
Destiny 2’s Skimmer Grind Should Be A Learning Opportunity
There are multiple ways to obtain the new Allstar Vector Skimmer vehicle inDestiny 2, with all of them currently being limited-time opportunities. For the Skimmer specific to theGuardian Games 2024 Seasonal Event, each of the methods for obtaining this particular Skimmer requires players to compete in the Guardian Games activities. While this is fairly standard, in hindsight, one of the possible ways that players can obtain this skimmer is far too demanding of a task. Specifically, the objective to get a top 10% competitive Nightfall score is arguably an unrealistic task.
For now, there are only two Skimmer vehicles inDestiny 2—one of which can be purchased in the Eververse Store for Silver premium currency, while the other one can be obtained by completing a particular quest during the 2024 Guardian Games, and it’s currently unclear if and when any new Skimmer vehicles will become available inDestiny 2.
For players who jump in immediately afterDestiny 2’s weekly resets, this is the best window of opportunity to get within the top 10% of Nightfall scores for the week, as there will be fewer scores to compete with. As each week goes on though, especially into the weekends, the top 10% score for the Guardian Games Nightfall playlist quickly skyrockets into ridiculous scoring thresholds. Even following a step-by-step guide at this point, attempting to get the score required to obtain the Skimmer through Nightfall Strikes inevitably reaches the point of being beyond the reach of most players.
Instead of requiring players to reach a percentile threshold of the global Nightfall scores, future Guardian Games should rework this quest objective into a static score threshold. This could still require players to coordinate for a high score while making it more accessible for players to earn the new Skimmer vehicle. Even outside the Guardian Games, otherSeasonal Events inDestiny 2should also avoid competitive quest objectives like this going forward.
