Destiny 2’s Year 4 and 5 are expanding the game’s universe in a way that many past Seasons didn’t, in preparation for the Light and Darkness saga to end with The Final Shape expansion in 2024. An example comes from the newNezarec’s Whisper glaive in Season of the Haunted, which built on existing lore surrounding the mysterious Nezarec - suggesting they may be one of The Witness' disciples. Yet, there are still many mysteries that the franchise can and should explore in the years to come, especially if Bungie has plans for decades ofDestiny 2content.

There are multiple races in the universe ofDestiny 2that have been only been expanded upon through lore books, and while most of them are extinct thanks to the Hive, some would benefit from more exposure. A great example is the Vex, who have been barely present in the mainDestiny 2story since Season of the Splicer, where their network was being exploited by Quria and Savathun. Now that the game’s story is tackling moral questions more often, exploring the way the Vex think and act would be interesting, particularly due to the fact that they are the least likelyrace to ever be blessed by the Light.

Why Destiny 2 is Unlikely to Give the Light to the Vex

The Vex are one of the most mysterious races in the universe ofDestiny 2because their hierarchy has not been fully shown, and they are the ultimate “causal” force in the current world. The Vex use probability and calculus to simulate reality and gain insights on their enemies, eventually overwhelming them by knowing their weaknesses in advance to exploit them.

One example comes fromQuria, Blade Transform, the now-defeated Taken Vex Mind that served Savathun after her brother Oryx used the power to Take on her, partially bending the Vex to do his bidding while letting Quria retain a portion of her own mind. Quria was first summoned by the Vex when they invaded Oryx’s Throne World due to the actions of Crota, and she rapidly learned how to emulate the so-called “Sword Logic” and Oryx himself to a degree, something that the Vex cannot do with Guardians.

This is because theforces of Light and the Travelerbend causality by breaking the laws of the universe, thus becoming unpredictable to the extent they can defeat the Vex, who would completely overcome mankind otherwise. Because of this, it’s unlikely that the Vex will ever be blessed by the Light, as they would comprehend the magnitude of the powers of “paracausality” and possibly even learn how to simulate them, becoming the ultimate powerhouse in theDestiny 2universe.

Furthermore, the Vex are the embodiment of the Sword Logic, meaning they could be the final shape that the Darkness wants to achieve if it weren’t for the limitations of their simulations. As such, among the various races in theDestiny 2universe, the Vex would never get the powers of the Light because they would become potentially unstoppable and conquer every world in every timeline. Still, exploring theconnection the Vex have with The Gardener and The Winnower, who are responsible for their “flower game” creating Radiolaria and the Vex, would be a theme fitting an entire expansion.
