Sony’sPS5reveal event is one of the most anticipated of the year, but fans may want to curb their expectations lest it end in disaster. So far, there has been no official announcement saying that theactual console designwould be shown, and the term “reveal event” has never been used by the company either. More likely than not, this event will simply showcase games that will be coming to the next gen console as well as reveal a little more information about it. Because of this, it is best to be safe than sorry when thinking of what to expect.

For those that didn’t know, thePS5reveal event was supposed to take place on June 4th, but Sony opted to postpone the event. In its announcement, Sony stated “…we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.” This is no doubt in reference to the masses protesting George Floyd’s death.

What Do We Know About PS5’s The Future of Gaming Event

To reiterate,Sony has never once referred to the upcoming event as a reveal, rather simply calling it “The Future of Gaming.” On its website, the gaming giant only states that players will get to see a host of great games coming to the PS5. Because of this, there will probably not be a reveal of the actual PS5 console’s design at the event. That isn’t to say it is impossible, just that Sony hasn’t confirmed that it will happen. With that in mind, viewers really shouldn’t get their hopes up too much. Sony seems willing to hold onto this piece of information for awhile.

Sony PS5 Reveal Event VS Inside Xbox

Perhaps one of the biggest embarrassments this year in gaming was theInside Xbox Gameplay Revealstream. Fans went in expecting to see a ton of gameplay on an Xbox Series X, but were treated to what ended up being a bunch of trailers. There was some gameplay shown, so technically Microsoft’s promise wasn’t broken, but it certainly didn’t live up to the expectations that fans had set and that was the main cause of the backlash.

If Microsoft had simply marketed the event as a new game reveal in which it would show a ton of new trailers, fans probably would have been thrilled about the event. Instead, things got so bad thatMicrosoft had to take down the streambecause the comment section was blowing up so much. A similar thing happened at the Road to PS5 event earlier this year, albeit to a lesser extent. This is why viewers need to be especially careful about how they approach the upcoming video.

If a majority of fans start watching The Future of Gaming event with the preconceived notion that they will see the PS5 console and it doesn’t happen, there could be even more backlash than there was for the Inside Xbox. On the other hand, fans will have a chance to see a ton of gameplay, as thePS5 reveal event is longer than most think, and that could be an amazing thing even if the console itself isn’t revealed. Ultimately how this event is received will be determined by what fans expect going into it.

ThePS5reveal event is postponed with no new date as of yet.
