Summary

Fans waiting anxiously forDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4may have just gotten a promising update from Krillin’s English dub voice actor. While Sonny Strait is more known for his work in anime than video games, he has lent his voice to titles likeSmiteandBorderlands 2in addition to playing the lead character in the’Splosion Manseries. For the most part though, Sonny Strait’s gaming career largely consists of tie-in games for anime franchises he’s acted in likeDragon Ball ZandOne Piece.

This includes theDragon Ball Z: BudokaiTenkaichiseries, a line of beloved PlayStation 2-era fighting games that allowed players to live out their favorite match-ups from theDragon Ballshows, movies, and manga in frantic 3D brawls. After a nearly 16-year wait, Bandai Namco finally announced thata fourthDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichititlewas in development earlier this year. That is, until Sonny Strait posted an intriguing video on TikTok a week ago. In this short clip, Strait addresses his fans and says that he had just finished with voice work for an unspecified video game - one that apparently involves “a lot of screaming.” He also notes that he plays three different characters, leaving fans to wonder if he reprised his roles as Krillin and BardockforDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4. Naturally, Strait couldn’t reveal what game he was working on in his TikTok video, instead telling viewers that his voice was “shot” from all the yelling he had to do.

Screaming is par for the course inDragon Ball, and Sonny Strait has voiced plenty of characters that could fill the three roles he mentioned in his video message. The previousDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichigames featured Goku’s loyal best friend Krillin and late father Bardock as playable fighters, and in 2007’sDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3Strait played the villainous General Blue. There are plenty of otherSonny Strait-voicedDragon Ballcharactersthat can fill the third playable slot, such as the robot Giru fromDragon Ball GTand the shape-shifter Piano from the originalDragon Ballseries.

Of course, Sonny Strait could have been talking about an entirely different game in his latest video, but his mentions of screaming and voicing three characters strongly point to a game in theDragon Ballfranchise. Whether this game isthe long-awaitedDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4remains to be seen, but it could be a sign that the game is near release given that English dubbing is typically done towards the end of development.
