Summary
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotpresents players with the opportunity to play through the events ofDragon Ball Zin RPG form, controlling Goku and his comrades as they navigate the events of the series. WhileDragon Ball Zis the most well knownDragon Ballseries in the West, it is far from all of it, and the sixthDragon Ball Z: Kakarotsixth DLC pack is promising to close out the series events. With the events ofDragon Ball Zfully covered, the only place the game will have to go in future content is intoDragon Ball’s other series, and in doing so, this sixth DLC could begin to reveal issues with the anime.
TheDragon Ballfranchise was, for a time, simple. WhileDragon Ball Zbegan to introduce alternate timelines, the Peaceful World Saga is where things begin to get confusing. During this final arc, the rumored subject of the sixth DLC, there is a 10-year time skip, followed bythe introduction of Uub.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill have to contend with this time skip. The problem with this is that future DLCs covering the events ofDragon Ball SuperandGTare rumored for the game’s next season of content. The addition of Peaceful World Saga DLC along with content from other series could revealDragon Ball’s problems with its convoluted timeline.

Dragon Ball Has A Timeline Problem
Dragon Ball Super, while frequently described as a sequel toDragon Ball Z, is actually an interquel.Supertakes place during the 10-year time jump inDragon Ball Z’s Peaceful World Saga. This means that while Uub is the big focus of the end ofDragon Ball Z,he never actually appears in its so-called sequel as he is still a small child. Assuming that future seasons cover the events ofSuperas leaks suggest, this jump back in time is going to be confusing.Dragon Ball Superand its events will not answer questions raised after the time jump, and for those unfamiliar withDragon Ball’stimelines, this could prove dissatisfying.
Dragon Ball Zhas a more traditional sequel inDragon Ball GT,which does follow the events of the Peaceful World Saga. WhileDragon Ball GTwould be the easier way to follow up the sixth DLC, the series is not canon to the manga on whichDragon Ball Superis based. This means that including content from bothSuperandGTwould makeDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’sthird season of DLCa challenge for developers to get right.Dragon Ball’stimelines and canon are a mess to figure out for all but its most dedicated fans, and the Peaceful World Saga exposes this fact with how it divides the series.

The Peaceful World Saga Is A Strange Ending
Even divorced from the potential ofDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’sfuture DLCand the events ofSuperandGT, the Peaceful World Sagastill draws attention to the series flaws. The arc ends with Goku training Uub to ensure that the earth will have a protector after he grows old. This ending, while a logical one, is very open-ended. Without the events ofSuperfans ofZare left with a 10-year gap during which the events are left a mystery, followed by Goku leaving his family and comrades to go train a newly introduced character. Without the events ofSuperorGT, the events at the end ofDragon Ball Zaren’t as satisfying.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s sixth DLC will bring the confusing nature ofDragon Ball’stimeline to light, and make the events of the Peaceful World Saga potentially feel underwhelming, especially if it is the game’s final content. This sixth DLC will also likely beDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s shortest DLCas there is simply not much content for it to cover. In spite of this, the inclusion of the Peaceful World Saga would mean that the game has covered the events ofDragon Ball Zmore thoroughly than any other game in the franchise, and that is something to celebrate.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
