Of the many NPCs encountered inElden Ring, Blaidd the Half-Wolf has to be among the most interesting. The shadowy protector of Ranni the Witch,Blaidd’s story is perhaps one of the game’s most tragic, and that’s saying quite a bit. Strangely enough, one of the most mysterious things about him is his height; he’s certainly huge, but, as one Redditor points out, he might not be quite as tall as he seems.
ThoughBlaidd can first be encountered in Limgrave’s Mistwood, players who missed the initial opportunity to speak with him can next encounter him, either when meeting Ranni in Liurnia or before going up against Starscourge Radahn in Caelid. However, when gearing up to charge into battle against Radahn, Reddit user u/icreievryteim noticed an odd discrepancy relating to Blaidd’s height. The character is probably something like twelve feet tall, and yet, the player, at roughly half his size, can don Blaidd’s armor without issue. This oddity, in the quick-witted mind of u/icreievryteim, made for an excellent meme format, but it might serve as a strange curiosity for others.

Of course, NPC and boss armor being scaled down to fit the player is nothing new inElden Ring. In fact, it was a pretty commonplace occurrence in theDark Soulsseries, as well. Hilariously enough, after defeating Starscourge Radahn, the player can equip his full regalia, and it’s tailored to fit perfectly when, in reality, the Tarnished could more easily use it as living quarters than as a suit of armor.
While earning the right to wear Radahn’s gear is fairly straightforward,coming upon Blaidd’s outfit inElden Ringis much more involved and infinitely more heartbreaking. He can be killed when first encountered at the Mistwood Ruins, but, for most players, he’ll be too tough to take on at that point. However, after finishing Ranni the Witch’s questline, he can be found patrolling Ranni’s Rise, purposeless and hostile. Defeating him here will net players his Greatsword and armor set.
Arguably more hilarious than the weird size inconsistencies of Blaidd’s armor is its description. When investigating the item in the menu after defeating the Half-Wolf, players will be told that the long pelt cape draped across the back was meant to protect Blaidd from the cold but that “the cold bothered him anyway.” This is a very out-of-placereference to the 2013 Disney movieFrozen, and whileElden Ringis rife with nods to movies and manga likeNausicaa of the Valley of the WindandBerserk, a Disney reference feels particularly out-of-left-field.
