Elden Ringreceived near universal praise at launch, but that has not deterred FromSoftware from implementing countless changes since February this year. The alterations range from entirely restructuring the balance and accessibility ofElden Ring’s PvP, to differences so minute that even those with hundreds of hours spent in the Lands Between would struggle to recognize them.
Elden Ringwas considered a masterpieceat launch by fans and critics alike, though there were some occasional performance issues. In updates that FromSoftware has released since, the majority of performance issues have been addressed, but attention has centered around amendments to weapons, modifications to bosses, and the most recent 1.07 patch, which at long last means scaling for PvE and PvP are independent of each other. However, there have been an abundance of revisions and additions which are so slight, they often forego even being mentioned in patch notes.

In an image uploaded to Reddit by u/SilentSnows, they highlighted one of the minor changes that FromSoftware have enacted, and claimed it to be demonstrative of the studio’s “dedication to perfecting the game imperceptibly over time.” It presents two images of the same message side by side, one that can be found afterdiscovering the Church of Dragon Communion, which is only accessible from inside the Coastal Cave in Limgrave. A damaged structure nearby the altar can be climbed, with a message waiting for whoever reaches the top which used to read “Far to the east, you’ll find the Cathedral of Dragon.”
At the time of writing, it is different, with “Communion” included following the word “Dragon,” and an additional sentence that describes the Cathedral as “A place where draconic power gathers.” Comments offered their own examples of similarly minor changes, including quality of life improvementswhen resting at Sites of Grace, differences in the amount of Runes awarded upon defeating specific enemies, and an addition to the map which notifies the player of merchants they have already found. Another alteration applied to the map was making it visible that Jarburg is inaccessible from the road, but some believed that the slight inaccuracies were a compelling aspect ofElden Ring’s exploration.
With the recent PvP changes brought into effect by FromSoftware,Elden Ring’s developer shows no sign of halting the efforts to change existing elements in line with its vision.Given an expansion forElden Ringis expected, players can expect similar changes, whether they be nearly indiscernible or revolutionary, to continue for the foreseeable future.
Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
