Today’s free game has been revealed: the tower defense titleDefense Grid: The Awakening.
Defense Grid: The Awakeningwas originally released on PC in 2008. However, despite being over a decade old,Defense Grid: The Awakeninghas a surprising longevity. The boom of tower defense games from the 2000s that spun out of mods forBlizzard’s RTS gamesled toDefense Grid, which is a showcase of the genre. In earnest, it’s a perfect option to make the most of a holiday break, or some time at home due to the pandemic.

Fittingly, for those who enjoy their time withDefense Grid: The Awakening, there’s also a robust DLC pack available. It’s not included with the free game, but it is currently discounted as part of theEpic Games Store Holiday Sale. It can be purchased for just $4.99 and includes six total DLC packs. You Monster, aPortal-themed story expansion; Containment; and four Resurgence Map Packs are included.
Those interested inDefense Grid: The Awakeningwill have to act fast. The game is only available for 24 hours. It will no longer be free as of Monday, December 21, and will be replaced by another, as-yet-unnamed free game. Epic Games Store users can go and claimDefense Gridnow.
Defense Grid: The Awakeningis the fourth free game offered as part of Epic’s 15 Days of Free Games. Come and gone have beenCities: Skylines,Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, andThe Long Dark. Eleven more free games will be made available between now and January 7. To get them all, Epic Games Store users will have to log in every day to claim each individual game.
Technically, the remaining games in the 15 Days of Free Games are a mystery, as they are supposed to be secrets for Epic users to discover when they log in each day.
