The long-awaited release ofEvil Dead: The Gamehas passed and fans of the horror film franchise and asymmetric multiplayer games are sinking their teeth in.Evil Dead: The Gameis a much bigger and more complicated game than many were expecting, leading to a slower development of its meta as players figure out what works and doesn’t. That’s not all they’re figuring out, though. A newEvil Dead: The Gamecheese is making things difficult for Demons.

A video shared on TikTok captured the cheese in motion. In the clip, it’s being used to help trivialize an important encounter inEvil Dead: The Game. It’s the concluding encounter of a match, the defense of the Necronomicon. And tobolster the Survivor’s defenses, they’ve surrounded the Necronomicon with cars. With no clear path to the Necronomicon, the AI-controlled demons are entirely unable to attack the objective. It effectively breaks the encounter.

That’s not to say that the Demon player is entirely without recourse. They could possess one of the cars, for example, and drive it off where it will no longer be of use. They could alternatively summon their boss, or possess a servant, and attack theNecronomicondirectly. It would, however, take precious time and resources to do so, making the encounter easier for the Survivors.

There’s also an argument that the organization required to accomplish this arrangement isn’t a cheese at all, but rather a well-executed and entirely fair strategy on the part of the Survivors. It’s no simple thing to even reach the Necronomicon stage ofEvil Dead: The Game. Doing that, while also managing to collect three or four cars, and keeping them in a defensive arrangement as theDemon summons underlingsand other frightening obstacles, is no simple task.

What it ultimately comes down to is fairness, though. If creating this arrangement, surrounding the Necronomicon with vehicles, makes the encounter impossible to complete for the Demon, then it’s a broken mechanic. DeveloperSaber Interactivewill have to take a serious look at it, consider whether it’s serious enough to demand a fix, and move forward from there.

Evil Dead: The Gameis not an easy game for Survivors. An experienced Demon has a number of advantages over a group of Survivors if they aren’t organized. It will be interesting to see how Saber approaches the issue of cheeses, as it could have implications for theasymmetric multiplayergame’s future balance.

Evil Dead: The Gameis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
