Summary
AFar Cry 5player has recreated aFar Cry 2-inspired environment using the game’s Arcade Mode. Map editors in theFar Cryfranchise are nothing new, and they offer players a way to experiment with the sandbox. However, the map editor inFar Cry 5, which launched in 2018, received a significant upgrade, giving players access to assets from various Ubisoft franchises, including the previousFar Crytitles,Assassin’s Creed, andWatch Dogs. In Arcade Mode, players have complete control over a number of features, including the audio and terrain of the maps, which they can also share with friends.
With such a highly comprehensive tool at their fingertips, players have been using Arcade Mode to recreate maps and even environments from some of their favorite titles, and so it was only a matter of time beforeFar Cry 2received the same treatment. Fans believeFar Cry 2needs a remakefor several reasons, including the nearly unforgiving survival mechanics that made it challenging and realistic. Since there hasn’t been any indication from Ubisoft of a remake happening, some fans have taken the matter into their own hands.

A YouTuber going by the handle Mojo Swoptops took to Reddit to share a screenshot of aFar Cry 2-inspired environment using the Arcade Mode ofFar Cry 5. The screenshot showcases an encampment surrounded by rocky cliffs with some houses in the far distance. This encampment is just below a cave, which was revealed in a video set to a track from theFar Cry 2soundtrack that Mojo Swoptops posted to YouTube to give fans a closer look. The video shows the player character exiting the cave and proceeding to stealthily take out some of the enemies before engaging in a gunfight with variousFar Cryweaponsto clear the enemy base.
A Next-Gen Look at Far Cry 2
According to Mojo Swoptops, they did this as a concept mockup so that fans could see what a potential next-generation version ofFar Cry 2would look like. Their post was well received on Reddit, with other users becoming nostalgic forFar Cry 2. Some, in particular, recalled aFar Crytropethat is not used in the games anymore, where the player must take a pill every so often in order to avoid getting malaria, while others praised the enemy AI and sandbox.
ThisFar Cry 2recreation is not the first time Mojo Swoptops has used the Arcade Editor inFar Cry 5to make environments from well-loved games. Previously, they also worked on Shipment, a widelypopularCall of Dutymultiplayer map, as well as Goodsprings fromFallout: New Vegas. While there has been no news aboutFar Cry 7beyond rumors, many fans are hoping for the new title to have a map editor when it ships, asFar Cry 6did not.
