As players take their first few steps across the barren remnants of Earth upon booting upForever Skies, they will soon realize that a better ship will be needed to navigate such agigantic open world, and luckily, there are plenty of ways to go about building one.

The main reason why so many people have been comparing Far From Home’s latest title to the belovedNo Man’s Skyis down to the perfect mixture of customization and immersion that both games offer the player. Rather than simply fast traveling and waiting for a loading screen to finish inForever Skies, players must take it upon themselves to tinker with their balloon, turbines, and engines to conjure up a machine that will enable them to cover much greater distances.
The game does generously gift the player with avery basic airshipat the beginning of the game, but it is only designed to get players from A to B until they find enough tools and resources to upgrade it into something much more impressive down the line. The good news is, it only takes some smart thinking and a few resources to turn the basic ship into something much more efficient which is capable of reaching the many hard-to-reach towers and mountains that are dotted across the map.

7Keep Enough Interior Space
By using the Airship Builder tool, players are able to modify the interior of their ship by adding new walls, rooms, and windows which are vital for analyzing the environment andseeking out essential resources, but also needed to keep more storage, which becomes so important considering how many items players can grab along their travels.
The Airship Builder is required to even begin customizing the basic airship, and it can be researched at the Research Station by acquiring 20 Synthetics and 1 Electrical Element. The tool can then be made at the Fabricator with 2 Electrical Elements, 1 Transformer, 1 Solid State Battery, and 20 Synthetics. Considering the very limited inventory space the player is given, it’s always essential to expand the ship to prepare for the adventure ahead.

6Use Multiple Turbines To Fly Higher
The more turbines are attached to the ship, the higher it will fly, making for an easy ride through the air without the worry of crashing into debris, which can make the first few hours of the game much more enjoyable. 30 Synthetics, 20 Metals, and a single Solid State Battery are all that are needed to make one, but having more is always better.

Each basic turbine adds an extra 20 meters to the maximum altitude, so it’s always a good idea to spend a lot of resources on them throughout the game to be able to escape out of the Dust that covers the surface and explore the rest ofwhat is left of Earth. Upon reaching a Greenhouse Tower, players will be able to scan a Wrecked Upgrade Station which then unlocks the upgraded turbines at the Research Station, adding even more height while also saving some room for other installments.
5Build A Second Balloon
While players can upgrade their balloon with the Airship Builder Tool, it’s worth keeping behind a few resources to build a second balloon, which not only alleviates a lot of the heavy storage kept on the ship but also makes it more visually appealing for photos too.
To add a second balloon, the ship will need to have enough room to accommodate the second balloon core. Therefore, only bigger ships will be able to handle 2 balloons at once, so it can be a good idea to build an extra room that’s not actually touching the original core and keep this around for when the second balloon blueprint is unlocked later in the game.

4Switch Between Fuels
Attaching multiple engines to a ship can help it cruise much faster through the murky skies of Earth, but they will require fuel to stay running, which isn’t normally too hard to find. However, in order for ships to travel at maximum speed, they will need to be fueled up with specific types of fuel that have better efficiency.

Synthetic is a low-efficiency fuel, so while it’s easier to find, to explore as many areas as quickly as possible, it’s worth keeping an eye out for Energy Crystals instead which are usually found in the Underdust, most of the time, in large clusters. Biomass is a medium-efficiency type of fuel and can be acquired from the long vines known as Thick Creepers, which can be harvested by using a knife.
3Stack Up On Circuit Boards
Out of many of the resources that go into improving and upgrading the ship, the Circuit Boards are undoubtedly one of the most important because of how vital the tools are that it can help make. The Location Radar especially is an essential resource that acts as a high-tech map that automatically highlights all towers and mountains in the vicinity, making it easy to gather resources.
Circuit Boards are also needed to craft a Tool Charger, which any playerhoping to survivemore than a few hours will need by their side at all times, and players can find them by checking the ruined PCs found within many of the 2-Light locations. There are plenty that can be found inside the buildings at standard wind farms too, alongside the rooftop wind farm variants.

2Customize The Catwalk
Many of the towers that players will encounter while venturing throughout the world will have very awkward designs that make them incredibly difficult to land on, but this doesn’t need to be the case. Extending the catwalk out to the front of the ship and customizing it into an ‘H’ formation leaves one row in front of the cabin’s glass while adding an additional tile on either side further forward. With that said, playersdon’t need to only stick to this design scheme, and should be encouraged to play around with the shape and length until they finally create a catwalk that not only looks cool but works well to boot.
Landing can be made even smoother if the original cockpit floor is changed to a glass floor instead, making it much easier for players to see how close they are to the surface without having to guess and potentially damage the exterior of the ship.

1Installing Rain Collectors
Despite the fact that the suit AI will constantly warn the player that their hunger or thirst is dropping to dangerous levels, this isn’t too much of an issue since they can both be replenished extremely quickly while on the surface. However, this can become a little more challenging to maintain as the game progresses and the journeys in the sky become far longer.
Rain Collectors can help overcome part of this issue by providing a constant supply of dirty water that doesn’t require any resources, and still functions much more efficiently than the condenser that is already installed on the ship. A Purification Machine will be needed topurify the water, which can only be crafted once the player has received access to the replicator. As for the Rain Collector, this can be researched by scanning some copper, which is commonly found in wind farms, along with a little bit of metal.
