Square Enix and Luminous Productions released update 1.03 forForspokento address multiple technical issues and improve certain features. Reception aroundForspokencontinues to be mixed, but the latest update should be beneficial for all players who chose to journey through the vast world of Athia.

Forspokenwas originally announced as “Project Athia” in June 2020 as a promising open-world action RPG by staff from theFinal Fantasy 15development team. Nearly two years after the initial reveal,Forspokenlaunched with mixed reviews and widespread criticism for its narrative and barren open world. Further, some users resorted toreview bombingForspokenon Metacriticsoon after launch due to issues involving the PC version. Despite the game’s polarizing reception, players and critics alike have discussedForspoken’spositive qualities such as the original soundtrack and combat system.

Forspokenupdate 1.03 is available now with highly-requested fixes for technical issues plaguing the existing PC version. The new update addresses graphics-related issues caused by runningForspokenwith an Intel Arc GPU. Players who experienced crashes and screen flickering whileplayingForspokenon PCshould no longer encounter these issues after successfully installing the update. In addition, theForspokenupdate fixes a bug that prevents the removal of the side button setting for the 5-button mouse configuration. System text accompanying the side button setting change will be available in other languages in a future update.

Steam Deck settings forForspokenhave been tweaked slightly in the latest update as well. The UI display size has been correctly adjusted for the Steam Deck’s 1280x800 display, and various audio issues and minor bugs have been addressed.Forspoken’slatest update also caps the number of displayed NPCs when the model detail level setting is set to low on PC. Moreover, button and mouse inputs were finally adjusted and corrected while a controller is connected to the PC version.

Forspokenshould be a more pleasant experience on PC since quality of life improvements and a suite of bug fixes were made in the new update. More updates being on the way is another promising sign for the PC and PlayStation 5 versions. However, it will be difficult forForspokento completely recover from the title’s post-launch perception. For instance,Forspokentakes cues fromFinal Fantasy 15including some unfortunate mistakes made during the opening portion.

Square Enix faced criticism for its PC portsin the past, so the company should bolster resources for PC development. Square Enix fans should have a great experience regardless of the platform they choose to play on.
