The world ofMinecraftis a vast one, filled with numerous biomes, oceans, and deep underground caverns. In the Overworld, players can build houses, build farms, and fight mobs as they traverse these many unique biomes. However, there’s more toMinecraftthan just the natural Overworld. With a few obsidian blocks and eyes of ender, players can travel to alternate dimensions via portals to the Nether and the End.

With the recent addition of the underground, ancient city-filled deep dark biome, many fans believe the area may lead to the introduction of a third alternate dimension. If this turns out to be true, Mojang should strive to make this dimension’s terrain less treacherous than the others.

The Nether and the End Have Very Dangerous Terrain

The Nether is a hellish dimension filled with lava and red netherrack serving as the dimensions' main primary surface. While other biomes were later added to the Nether, including the Nether wastes, crimson forests, warped forests, soul sand valleys, and basalt deltas, the world of the Netheris still difficult to traverse. Oftentimes, portals will spawn on floating islands, causing players to fall to their deaths or melt in lava lakes. Even if portals spawn on floating islands, giant flying ghasts will repeatedly hurl explosive fireballs at the players, destroying the environment and frequently forcing players to parkour through the dimension.

Likewise, the End is a space-like worldfilled with meteorite-like End stone that serves as the ground for the dimension’s many floating islands. Unlike the Nether, the End is filled completely with distant floating islands that feature biomes such as End highlands, End midlands, and End barrens, alongside small End islands that spawn throughout. Players can only traverse the end by going through small, bedrock covered End gateways and building long bridges from island to island. If players fall off any island and into the void, they’ll slowly die before respawning in the Overworld.

The Deep Dark Explained

The deep dark biomecan primarily be found deep underground mountains in the Overworld. The telltale sign of deep dark biomes are the dark blue, moss-like sculk blocks. From here, players can sometimes find vast ancient cities filled with sculk, soul sand, wool, wood, and deepslate blocks or bricks. While ancient cities have unique loot such as the rare echo shards and swift sneak enchanted books, players must tread carefully in this area. If a sculk shrieker is triggered three times, a massive warden mob will spawn, plummeting the nearby area in a deep, far-reaching darkness.

According to Minecraft gameplay developer Brandon Pearce, the deep dark’s warden mob was initially designed as a blind piglin mob for the Nether intended for the 2020 Nether Update.

A Theoretical Deep Dark Dimension Needs a New Approach

Inthe center of ancient cities, a massive portal-like structure can be found shaped similarly to a warden’s head. Many fans believe this structure will later be developed into a portal to a deep dark dimension, expanding upon blocks and traits found in deep dark biomes and ancient cities. For example, this hypothetical dimension could be entirely covered with sculk along with smaller biomes filled with packed ice, as there are small rooms in ancient cities filled with packed ice and ice box chests. In a sense, this potential sculk and ice-filled deep dark dimension could serve as an antithesis to the fiery Nether dimension.

However, Mojang should strive to design the layout of this dimension far different from the floating islands ofthe Nether or the End. Instead, this dimension could be entirely connected, similar to the landscapes of the Overworld. To make it a bit more unique to traverse, Mojang could set this dimension in perpetual darkness, similar to the darkness created by wardens. This could make this dimension relatively easier to traverse and give players a break from building bridges and jumping everywhere in the otherMinecraftdimensions. Wardens and other new, hostile mobs can still roam this dimension but serve as the primary challenge instead of the environment being the source of most frustration.
