A report from digital market analytics company Sensor Tower has revealed that the mobile version ofGenshin Impacthas earned over $3 billion throughout its two-year lifespan. Since the game’s initial release, HoYoVerse’s flagship RPG has become an online sensation, with the game seeing an explosion in popularity.Genshin Impactreportedly saw over 17 million downloadswithin just four days and won Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards in 2021. Now, a new report following the game’s second anniversary places it as one of the top-grossing mobile games of the past two years.

The report from Sensor Tower revealed thatGenshin Impacthas earned roughly $3.7 billion since its September 2020 launch. The massive sales success forGenshin Impactplaces the RPG as the third-highest grossing mobile game worldwide over the past two years, only falling short of China-exclusive mobile gameHonor of KingsandPUBG Mobile.Genshin Impactreportedly finished second in earnings for mobile games outside of China, with onlyRobloxmanaging to top HoYoVerse’s massively popular RPG.

Sensor Tower’s report goes on to reveal the top-grossing regions forGenshin Impact, with China holding a strong lead over other similarly large markets.China has beenGenshin Impact’s top marketthroughout its lifespan, with the Chinese playerbase accounting for $1.2 billion on iOS alone, around 33 percent ofGenshin’s revenue. Japan ranked as the second-biggest market forGenshin Impactwith a 24 percent share ofGenshin’s revenue, while the United States came in third at 17 percent. The report also reveals the split in spending between platforms, with iOS being the dominant platform for the game worldwide.

The huge sales numbers in China have been apparent with regularly updatedcharts showing revenue fromGenshin Impact’s character banners. Venti has long been one ofGenshin’s most successful characters when it comes to player spending, with his two reruns combining for nearly $10 million USD on the first day in China.Genshin Impactdata from China has also shown that the game has already had at least five gacha banners gross over $4 million on Day 1 in the Chinese market. A large majority ofGenshin Impact’s banners have seen similar Day 1 success, with most topping $1 million.

The recent report showingGenshin Impact’s massive success comes as HoYoVerse recently kicked off the game’s second-anniversary celebrations. During the Version 3.1 Special Program livestream, HoYoVerse announced along-term anime project forGenshin Impactpartnering with popular Japanese studio Ufotable.Genshin Impactwill also hold its second annual concert featuring music from the game this coming weekend on October 2. With major announcements and in-game rewards kicking off the festivities,Genshin Impactwill look to replicate its success throughout the next year.
