Genshin Impactallows gamers to explore a vast fantasy world with seven known regions found on the main continent of Teyvat. Each region is filled with creative landmarks, many of which are linked to the game’s plot and quest lines. Now, a number ofGenshin Impactplayers are theorizing about a mysterious area on the map that may or may not have a purpose.
Inthe region of Liyue, players can find an area known as Guyun Stone Forest, which is a subarea of the Sea of Clouds. It is an archipelago composed of seven main islands and a number of smaller ones, with the northernmost island holding the Geo Hypostasis and the southwest island holding the Domain of Guyun. According to Liyue legend, Guyun Stone Forest is where the Geo Archon Rex Lapis defeated the sea monster deity known as Osial in the distant past.

Redditor thegrayyernaut shared a short video of themself running around Guyun Stone Forest asHydro character Sangonomiya Kokomiin which they draw attention to a specific rock in the area. It seems that off the edge of one particular island, players can encounter what seems to be a small floating platform. The platform is clearly floating at the water’s surface and appears to be made from a mixture of clear green jade and ordinary gray rock. In the accompanying text, thegrayyernaut states that they wish miHoYo would tell them what the platform is for.
Thegrayyernaut shared their own theory—that the floating rock was originally supposed to take players to Alcor and is now purposeless—in the original post and other fans soon began discussing other possibilities. One theory expressed in the replies is that the floating rock is wreckage from the Jade Chamber, a floating structure that was destroyed back inGenshin Impactversion 1.1. Video taken of the game back in version 1.0 appears to support this, as the floating rock was not visible back then.
Furthermore, the rock resembles the floating stones that were used to access the Jade Chamber in earlier versions. Another user pointed out that there’s a similar rock found in Huaguang Stone Forest, but that platform does appear to have a purpose—ithighlights a Seelie floating on it. It’s also possible that the rock is a prop that will be used in an upcoming quest or event. Sometimes theGenshin Impactteam adds new key items to the game before the associated storyline is implemented as a form of foreshadowing.
Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
