Summary

WithGod of War: Ragnarokending with arguably one of themost satisfying endings to any video game saga, the characters remaining may still have much to be uncovered. As new journeys for Atreus begin in the aftermath ofGod of War: Ragnarok, the same can be said for his father, Kratos, and their Aesir god friend, Freya.

Even though Baldur’s death is still weighing on Freya’s mind after the events ofGod of War(2018), Kratos and Freya’s partnership in defeating Odin duringRagnarokhas left fans anticipating what may be next for the charactersin a new installment for theGod of Warseries.

Kratos & Freya

5Adventure Together

As the ending ofGod of War: Ragnarokleaves a promising and positive fate for Kratos based on the murals seen, Freya decides to join hands with him and Mimir to begin to rebuild. In the aftermath of the game’s main story, players will have the opportunity to travel across all realms, complete side quests that have been left untouched, and witness more dialogue between the three characters.

While there is no guarantee that a newGod of Wartitle will focus on Kratos, if it does, picking up whereRagnarokleft off with Kratos and Freya together would be the perfect place to begin. Considering a lot of time has passed in the story by the time a new entry arrives, the relationship between these two characters will more than likely have expanded and improved much more than before.

Freya & Kratos

4Romance

In the aspect of potential romance developing between Kratos and Freya, many fans may be opposed to it. Since Kratos was the one to take Freya’s son away from her despite it being done to stop her own death, it is felt that it would be unrealistic for either character to develop romantic feelings.

Nevertheless, theGod of Warfranchise has included some of the most brutal storylines andunorthodox relationships regarding family, especially with Kratos and his family. It would be a surprise for many to see the pair together romantically, but it is certainly not impossible to occur.

Kratos & Freya

3Friendship

On the other hand, the most probable outcome of Kratos and Freya’s partnership in bringing balance back to all the realms after the war is a strong friendship. After the time spent with one another in bothGod of War(2018) andRagnarok,Freya has come to know both Kratos and Atreus very well.

Kratos' trust in Freya is at a high level, especially after saving Atreus' life in 2018’s title. Taking this into consideration, there is no doubt that feelings of respect and admiration will be mutual between the two characters, and they will fight with all their might for one another.

2Maintaining Peace In All Realms

After the chaotic war inGod of War: Ragnarok, there is much left to be rearranged and rebuilt as Kratos says to Freya and Mimir. With the likes ofOdin, Thor, and other dangerous threatseliminated, it is left to Freya and Kratos to maintain that and ensure the realms are at peace.

With how formidable and powerful both characters are known to be, the cooperation among them will be key in also achieving the positive and promising future that Kratos saw through a mural at the end of the story. To become a god who is revered and looked upon as a savior, there is much work that needs to be done in order to reach that level in the eyes of Kratos, and Freya is the best person to stand alongside in that aim.

Freya

1Freya’s Journey To Full Forgiveness

The biggest question among fans in the lead-up toRagnarok’s release in 2022, was how Freya’s wrath and pursuit of vengeance upon Kratos would affect the story. After an opening that left many fans gobsmacked with its action as Freya hunts down Kratos, and a surprise boss encounter in the midst of realm travel to Midgard, Freya finally forgave Kratos. Realizing who the number one enemy is and what remains as the pivotal factor with theneed to eliminate Odin, fans witnessed a Freya who had learned to let go of her rage for Kratos.

While this is definitely the case, there still remains a level of fury and anger within Freya that she may not ever be able to let go as would any mother. This is mentioned during her speech on forgiveness and is a direct argument toward a potential romance as aforementioned, but it is made clear that she will never decide to suddenly lash out and reignite her wrath upon Kratos. Both are on very good terms by the end of Ragnarok and with the likelihood of both appearing in the nextGod of War-related entry, it would be interesting to see how the character reacts and responds to the mention of Baldur.
