Despite it having released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, Rockstar Games is preparing to portGrand Theft Auto 5to its third console generation.GTA 5will be playable onPS5andXbox Series X, alongside its multiplayer componentGrand Theft Auto Online, and with that longevity has come an accumulation of resources that some players are beginning to find problematic.
Rockstar has been offeringGTA Onlineplayers free moneyfor months, often in six-to-seven figure increments. In fact, whenGTA 5was announced for PS5 at Sony’s Future of Gaming livestream in June, PS4 players were given the opportunity to collect a million GTA$ every month until the next-generation version releases. As a result, players have mounting bank account numbers, and some are finding it to be so high that the amount is difficult to read.

The issue is epitomized by a Reddit user named Fighter_C3, who posted to the r/gtaonline subreddit yestrrday saying the “real update we need” is the addition of commas in the main display for cash inGTA Online. One comment named freedDan says players can pause the game to see their money more succinctly laid out, but the post has gathered nearly 40,000 upvotes as of this writing as players agree the extra step is annoying for an otherwise simple fix.
The online game does see regular events that keep players coming back to, theoretically, spend their vast fortunes on new customization options and items. However, events likeGTA Online’s 2020 Independence Day celebrationdon’t completely alleviate the problem considering they put in-game items on sale for limited time periods.
All things being equal it sounds silly to complain about having too much money in a video game, but the premise behind complaints over Rockstar’s oversight when creating the aesthetic design for a major piece of the game’s heads-up display is valid. Luckily, players don’t need to pay attention to their money if they prefer to mess with the bevy ofGTA Onlinemods adding elements like Tesla’s Cybertruck.
The huge amount of things available inGrand Theft Auto 5and its online component have kept the game relevant and popular for years.GTA 5was one of the top-selling games of June 2020, and despite some complaints about issues counting money, this is likely to remain consistent into the early era of next-generation consoles.
Grand Theft Auto Onlineis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
