Halo Infiniteis moving toward the release of Season 2 with the hope that it’ll reinvigorate the online multiplayer game’s playerbase. A variety of new content has already been confirmed, including new maps, new game modes, new events, a new battle pass, and much more. Rewards are obviously a major priority forHalo Infiniteplayers given the sharp criticism of Season 1. It’s perhaps no surprise then that 343 Industries recently held a community stream breaking down battle pass rewards recently, then, including a special teaser.

On Wednesday 343 hosted a special Season 2 Community Livestream during which it previewed content from the upcomingHalo Infiniteupdate. One part of the preview stream was a breakdown of Season 2’s Battle Pass and the earnable content therein. When approaching Rank 50 of the battle pass, instead of the battle passes rewardsHalo Infinitefans were shown a brief cryptic teaser video. After the video had ended, 343 had scrolled past rank 50 and didn’t acknowledge what had happened.

While the truth of the tease is anything but clear, the implication appears to be that this Lux Voluspa AI manufacturer was hacked and something was stolen, a Matrix Core. The obvious answer is that a Matrix Core holds one ofHalo’s every-popular AI companionsor a key component necessary for an AI and that one was stolen. Who stole the Matrix Core and what their goals are remain a mystery.

Perhaps a bigger mystery, however, is why this small story-focused teaser was used to obfuscateHalo Infinite’s Season 2 rank 50 battle pass reward. An AI-related cosmetic is an exciting possibility. 343 must believe it has something special in store forHalo Infiniteplayers to earn if it has gone to such lengths to build up excitement.

343 knows that offering improved rewards with its Season 2 battle pass is a must if it wantsHalo Infiniteto succeed. In that light, it’s no surprise that it took the opportunity to do something cool for one of its planned rewards. But building up excitement for a reward is one thing, and bringing backHalo Infiniteplayersto earn it is something else entirely.Halo Infinite’s second season arrives on May 3.

Halo Infiniteis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
