Underlining how a game “moves along with the player” and how it’s possible for the player’s feelings to get “detached” when events happen in the background, Kojima noted that the transceiver inMetal Gearovercame this issue by “depicting” the player’s present situation in addition to shining a light on the situation of other characters or on other events. He added that this function allowed moments concerning “the identity of the BOSS [sic], the betrayal of a character, death of a team member and so on” to be depicted at the same time. Acknowledging the Transciever Mode’s role in more routine tasks, theDeath Strandingdirector said that it also enabled players to understand the rules of the game and helped them get familiar with the gameplay.
