Hogwarts Legacyhas many exploration challenges and things to do beyond the main story, with hundreds of collectibles to find in the open world. InHogwarts Legacy, players can pop balloons while flying on a broom, activate landing platforms, and embark on various collectible-themed activities, like findingall butterfly chest locations.

There are15 known butterfly cheststo collect inHogwarts Legacy,and many players may recall this activity fromHogwarts Legacy’s Follow The Butterflies side quest, which involved tracking magical butterflies leading to a Collection Chest reward. It’s not a prerequisite to complete this quest to begin collecting butterfly chests, but one location only appears after completing this side quest.
Players must also be close to the butterfly area for the butterfly location icon to appear on the world map, so exploration by broom, mount, or on foot and using Revelio is crucial to locate them all, especially when the butterflies move freely around each area.
North Ford Bog Butterfly Location
The first butterfly location is closest to theNorth Ford Bog Floo Flame. Descend the slope to the west, and the butterflies flutter near the covered bridge. Follow them along the bridge to the chest.
Forbidden Forest Butterfly Location
There is oneset of butterflies in the Forbidden Forest. Travel toJackdaw’s Floo Flameand head east, past the nearbyForbidden Forest Merlin trial location. Locate the butterflies near the Small Bandit Camp and follow them across the wooden bridge to find the chest next to the ruined house.
Hogsmeade Valley Butterfly Location
Players can find agroup of butterflies in Hogsmeade Valley. Travel to theEast Hogsmeade Valley Floo Flameand head to the opposite cliffs to the south. The butterflies swarm and fly to a chest beside the nearby Merlin Trial.

North Hogwarts Butterfly Locations
There aretwo kaleidoscopes of butterflies to find in North Hogwarts. The first is discoverable in theFollow The Butterflies side quest. To begin the quest, travel to Hogsmeade and talk to Clementine Willardsey in The Three Broomsticks.
This takes players to the fringes of the Forbidden Forest, just south ofThe Collector’s Cave Floo Flame. Follow the butterflies along the river and into the trees past the spider warning signs leading to a nearby butterfly chest.
The second is west of theEast North Hogwarts Floo Flame. Follow the river by the waterfall to find the butterflies flying close by. Follow them up the river pathway to locate the chest at the top of the slope.
South Hogwarts Butterfly Locations
There aretwogroups of butterflies to find in South Hogwarts. The first is located south of theMooncalf Den Floo Flame, towards the left side of the Quidditch Pitch at the top of the cliffs. Follow the butterflies briefly along the cliffside to find the collection chest nearby.
The second set of butterflies is discoverable close to theAranshire Floo Flame. Head along the paths south of Aranshire towards the moving dragon hedge to find the butterflies nearby. Follow them near the cliff’s edge to locate the next butterfly chest.

Hogwarts Valley Butterfly Locations
There arethree butterfly chests in Hogwarts Valley. Find the first group of butterflies east of theCentral Hogwarts Valley Floo Flameby the railway viaduct bridge. Track the butterflies to the chest near the bridge.
The second set is near the ruins west of theKeenbridge Floo Flame, also aHogwarts LegacyAncient Magic Hot Spot location. Find the butterflies flying behind the ruins and follow them into the trees to locate the chest.
The third set is located east of theKeenbridge Floo Flameby the large Bandit Camp Castle. Players can find the butterflies along the river and follow them to a nearby chest by the river’s edge.

Feldcroft Region Butterfly Locations
There aretwo groups of butterflies to discover in the Feldcroft Region. The first is located southwest of theNorth Feldcroft Floo Flamenear the Feldcroft Treasure Vault in the cliff ruins.
Head to the cliff’s edge to find the butterflies and track them along the water’s edge to find the next butterfly chest.
The second butterfly chest is discoverable southeast of theFeldcroft Catacomb Floo Flame, where players undertake theIn The Shadow Of The Relic questwith companions Sebastian and Ominis. Head towards the nearby Small and Medium Bandit Camps to find the butterflies and follow them up the cliff to reach the chest.
Poidsear Coast Butterfly Locations
There aretwo butterfly chests to discover on the Poidsear Coast. Players can find the first southeast of theTomb of Treachery Floo Flame.
Head up the cliffs to locate the butterflies opposite the nearby ruins and follow them past the Merlin Trial to get the butterfly chest opposite Poidsear Castle.
The second is outside theSouth Poidsear Coast Floo Flameby the wooden bridge. Follow them across the bridge and into the grounds of the ruins to the chest.
Clagmar Coast Butterfly Location
Thefinal butterfly chest is on the Clagmar Coastnorthwest of theClagmar Castle FlooFlame. Travel past all castle ruins to the Medium Bandit Camp by the northwest coast to find the butterflies nearby. Follow them along the rocky coastal path to find the final chest next to anAshwinder Eggs location spawn point.

Butterfly Collection Chest Rewards
Opening each butterfly chest gives players a different Conjuration reward to use in theHogwarts LegacyRoom of Requirement, such as workstations and decorations to further personalize and decorate their space, with many possible beautiful customization options. Players can view their conjuration collections in the Collections menu.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
