Spider-Manvillain Hydro-Man may have had a larger part in the 90s animated series, but he has so far been underrepresented in live-action Spidey projects (although the water elemental fromFar From Homecould be considered a close approximation). If this classic villain were to appear in a film in the future, why not cast someone as recognizable as John Cena? One fan artist has given fans a hint as to how that might look.
Hydro-Man, also known as Morris Bench, was accidentally knocked off of a ship into the water after being caught in the middle of a battlebetween Spider-Man and Namor. Bench fell into the ocean and was caught in the range of the testing of an experimental generator. This evidently caused him to transform into Hydro-Man and he began to blame Spider-Man for his current predicament. His anger turned him to a life of crime all while seeking revenge against the web-slinger.

His abilities include exper street fighting, water manipulation, superhuman durability, superhuman strength and is also able to transform himself into a watery liquid substance. All of his cells remain under his control and he’s also able to merge with and manipulate larger bodies of water while in his liquid form. He can increase his mass which of course causes tidal waves as well as tsunamis. By turning into a liquid form he becomes invulnerable to certain projectiles such as bullets and of course web-slinging. Sandman is a very dangerous foe with similar properties, so it’s a shameHydro-Man never made it into the Sinister Six
to capture all of the deadly aspects of Hydro-Man’s powers, M.Design34 created a piece offan artwork with John Cena as a source of inspiration. The artwork captures the civilian look of Morris Bench while also showing the lower half of the character’s water form which heavily resembles Bench from the comic pages.
M.Design34 also has more artwork on the page. Expect to see more realistic drawings or creations that are nods to the characters, actors, and creators of Marvel properties. There’s a lot of artwork to go through and they post pretty frequently so be sure to check it out whenever the chance arises as they all look very good.
M.Design34 also featured the slides from the comic book pages that drove the inspiration for this artwork. Showing credit and also making it clear what the vision was for the fan art. It’s also a nice callback to where the character originated which is always appreciated by die-hard comic fans. Hopefully one day Marvel fans get to see a live-action version of this character.
