Netflix’sThe Crownhas given viewers an inside look into the lives of the British Royal Family throughout the years, from the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II in the ’50s to the emergence of Princess Diana in the ’80s. The fifth season, which will reportedly focus on the late ’90s and early noughties, will see the addition of a new royal figure to the show: Kate Middleton.

WhileThe Crownhas been criticizedfor taking some historical liberties here and there, it continues to be a hit among audiences, and it is gearing up to return toNetflixthis November for yet another season. It will be interesting to see how the new cast will fare in the next season, especially givenThe Crown’s track record of success in receiving acting nominations.

Christina Garibaldi and Christine Ross, hosts of the Royally US podcast, revealed in their latest episode that Netflix is now searching for a Middleton lookalike tojoin the cast ofThe Crown. The current speculation is that the role will be a minor one, but reports claim that there will still be some focus on Middleton’s romance with Prince William, particularly with regard to their time spent together at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. The casting decision for Middleton was released shortly after the show’s announcement for Prince William and Prince Harry.

It’s unclear how much of their story will be featured inthe upcoming season ofThe Crown, but Garibaldi notes that with these announcements, it can be assumed that Netflix is building onto the timeline they’ve already established in previous seasons. Netflix has not hinted at any particular names that may be on their radar, but some fans have put forward their own suggestions, including Anna Sophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Emilia Jones (CODA), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), and even Maude Apatow (Euphoria).

The Crownseason 5 will also see Imelda Staunton inherit the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman. Other members of the cast have been recently confirmed, including Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret, Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet) as Princess Diana, Dominic West (The Wire) as Prince Charles, Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary) as Sir John Major, Khalid Abdalla (Hanna) as Dodi Fayed, and Olivia Williams (The Nevers) as Camilla Parker Bowles.

The Crownwill return to Netflix for its fifth season this November 2022.
