Kirby and the Forgotten Landis looking to change things up dramatically, with the fan-favorite pink puffball shifting from a 2D side-scrolling adventure to open and vast 3D worlds. This alone is exciting, as this is the first time theKirbyseries is making this transition, with past games using 3D models while sticking to a 2D plane. There are also plenty of new features that have recently been shown off, especially when it comes to how Kirby’s new abilities impact the gameplay.
While Kirby’s copy abilities are retained and reworked to fit 3D environments, there is are also new transformations that directly alter the environment around Kirby. This includesKirby’s new Mouthful Mode, which allows him to stretch his mouth and cover certain objects and utilize its abilities. This ranges from Kirby driving a car using his mouth to shooting cans of soda out of a vending machine. While a bunch of features will be included in the game, Nintendo has revealed another: amiibo support.

The last major Nintendo game touse amiibo features was 2021’sMetroid Dread, which similarly provided players with additional health items to help them on their journey. It’s possible that Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s amiibo functionality will follow a same route, where it will provide players with food items that can restore Kirby’s health or provide a form of in-game currency or treasure.
