From Velan Studios, the developer behind the recentMario Kart Live: Home CircuitAR game, and EA Originals, comes a new online multiplayer experience in the form ofKnockout City. After a couple of beta sessions earlier this year,Knockout Cityhas now launched to the world. With any new multiplayer game, players rightly want to know whether the game is able to be played across different platforms.

InKnockout City, players are pitted against each other in 3v3, 4v4, or free-for-all battles in a unique twist on the classic game of dodgeball. Running around the various maps currently available, players get to try and pummel opponents using different kinds of dodgeball weapons. The decision between trying to catch a ball or dodge it will be made on the regular in the game’s fast-paced matches.

Many players will be happy to know that Velan Studios has broughtcross-play toKnockout Cityat launch. No matter the platform, from PC to consoles, players will be part of one large player pool. Thankfully,Knockout Citydoesn’t require pinpoint accuracy when aiming, so it’s unlikely that players on one platform will have an advantage over others. As players head intoSeason 1 ofKnockout Citynext week, they can expect to be able to play with or against players across all available platforms.

Not only doesKnockout Cityhave cross-play, but it also provides cross-progression. With cross-progression, players can enjoy the game on any platform they choose, even playing on several platforms through the same account. It is a highly-desired feature in a lot of multiplayer games, and somegames likeApex Legendsare working to add cross-progressionin post-launch.Knockout Cityplayers won’t have to wait at least, since it’s automatically an aspect of the game.

The preview closed and open betas forKnockout Cityleft most players with positive opinions on the new title, which bodes well for the game’s official reception. Any player that might be interested in trying outKnockout Citycan do so for free until Jul 15, 2025. The Block Party Free Trial event lets players try out all that the full game has to offer, including Season 1 content when it begins on May 25.

Plus, players should hone up their dodgeball skills if they want to participate in the community tournament the devs are hosting on May 28 with an actual prize pool. It will be interesting to see whetherKnockout Citycan hook enough players to become a game that lasts. On the bright side, cross-play automatically ensures a big enough player pool to keep players engaged in the game withoutwaiting too long between matches.

Knockout Cityis available now on PC, PS4|5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
