Summary
Following the Pokemon Day 2023 Tera Raid event featuring Mewtwo and offering players a free Mew to defeat it, the thought of more legendary raids inScarlet and Violetis highly possible. Considering that the next Pokemon game,Pokemon Legends: Z-A, is releasing sometime in 2025, there’s certainly time for some legendary challenges in the meantime.
With so many legendary Pokemon returning in theIndigo DiskDLC, and with only a handful of legendaries not being in the game at all, the options for what might appear in a Tera Raid are somewhat up in the air, given that many of these rare Pokemon are readily available for players. Even with legendaries in the game, there are a few Pokemon that are definitely worthy of the Tera Raid challenge.
1Galarian Legendary Birds
Flipside To The Snackworth Quest
While theSnackworth quest in the Blueberry Academygives players access to the original Kanto legendary birds of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, a fairly recent addition to these birds is unseen within the game. The Galarian version of these birds debuted inSword and Shieldand could be introduced through a Tera Raid event.
Since the Galarian birds lose their elemental Dual-typing in favor of Psychic, Fighting, and Dark-typing respectively, the addition of the Terastallization gimmick to these already unique regional variants could present an obvious and suitable challenge. Whether the Tera-type could be Flying, or one of the types the Galarian birds possess for even stronger and scarier STAB moves, the return of these fascinating forms would be well appreciated.
2Regieleki And Regidrago
Opportunities For Accessibility
The somewhat odd new additions to the legendary giants, Regieleki and Regidrago are one of the few Pokemon fromSword and Shieldthat didn’t reappear withthe Indigo Disk DLC. While a very new addition to the group made up of Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Regigas, the continued presence of these titans, especially as semi-version exclusive Tera Raids, would line up perfectly.
Although other returning legendaries from Generation Eight arecompetitively important Pokemon,like Urshifu and Glastrier, the new Regis are still valuable Pokemon to obtain for either collection or just for power. Whether Regieleki and Regidrago have their core typing powered up or get a Terastal type for defensive purposes, these two Regis would be a great double challenge inScarlet and Violet.
3Zygarde
A Look Into The Future
A Pokemon that has received a lot more attention and focus after the last Pokemon Day, Zygarde could be a perfect Pokemon to bring toScarlet and Violetfor Tera Raids. Known famously for its difficult Dynamax Adventure battle, transforming into its Complete Forme, as well as being the titularreason behindPokemon Legends: Z-A,Zygardeoffers both a tremendous Raid challenge.
4Shiny Rayquaza
An Anime Cross-Over
Perhaps one of the most iconic and beloved shiny Pokemon, shiny Rayquaza could be a perfect Tera Raid boss inScarlet and Violetfor several reasons. Beyond the presence of a shiny Rayquaza in the Pokemon anime and the synergy of bringing that Rayquaza to the game, the power behind Rayquaza would be just as well-equipped for ruling a Tera Raid.
Between tremendous stats and access to the move Dragon Ascent, having a confirmed shiny Pokemon, let alone a legendary, in a Tera Raid is a perfect motivator for players. It’s fairly easy to obtain a legendary in other ways, but catching a legitimate shiny legendary without having tohope for the best with shiny huntingmakes it a great reward for most players. If this Rayquaza was given the Tera type of either Flying or Dragon, actually catching it would be quite a challenge.
5Koraidon And Miraidon
A Perfect Distribution
Like many of the recent games, there’s often a distribution of the opposite game’s legendary Pokemon, ateither real-world locationsor distributions over the internet. WithSwordgranting players a shiny Zamazenta andShieldgranting players a shiny Zacian, the foundation is absolutely in place forScarletplayers to have a chance at catching a possibly shiny Miraidon, andVioletplayers being able to find a shiny Koraidon.
Even without the element of either box legends being shiny, having access to catching an otherwise unobtainable legendary is a feature most players greatly appreciate. While a shiny version of each would be a nice cherry on top of the event, it isn’t necessary by any means. With both Koraidon and Miraidon having abilities and moves geared towards Tera Raids, having this paradoxical pair in the Tera Raid cycle would be a perfect way to endScarlet and Violet.
