TheFinal Fantasy 13trilogy is the first and only trilogy in theFinal Fantasyseries and has left its mark despite relatively mixed reviews among fans. With the release ofLightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, instead of having a party, players only had Lightning to play as. Thoughcombat is pretty similarto its predecessors and feels a little reminiscent ofFinal Fantasy X-2’s dressphere system.

The garbs that players equip on her will determine her stats and can be customized to improve them. All the garbs can be useful in their own way and depend on the player and their combat style. It might seem a little overwhelming, but these garbs are some of the best in the game and worth getting and investing time to improve them.
10Martial Monk
The Martial Monk looks flashy, but on paper, it seems a little less flashy. The Punt ability and its rather weak hit might put some players off and make them look past this garb. However, if given time and patience, this garb can becomeone of the best in the game. The Whirlwind Kick is very powerful and one of the best abilities in the game.
However, the Martial Monk is not without its faults. Timing it can be a little tricky and downright frustrating at first. Those who manage to get it down perfectly know that this garb can be very powerful for endgame content.
9Midnight Mauve
This garb has long been hailed as one of the best garbs in the game. When first received, the Midnight Mauve is a must-have for Lightning to be able to change into. With a 100% ATB start and an increase in spell damage, this garb is set to become one of thebest magic-based garbsin the game.
While other garbs can outmatch it, the Midnight Mauve is still pretty good even for some endgame content. Equipping it with the right weapon and shield can easily be the best garb for magic damage.
8Dark Knight
TheDark Knight classhas been known for being a very powerful class in theFinal Fantasyseries and this class matches up perfectly with it. The Ashura ability does take away from Lightning’s HP, but it does great physical damage to the enemy and launches them into the air. Then there’s the Darkness ability which also eats away at Lightning’s HP, but it’s a better and stronger version of the Blitz ability found in some other garbs.

It does sound a little risky to use, but having another garb that can do some healing or like the Dragoon garb which can use Lancet can lessen the HP loss. This garb is one of the best physical attackers in the game if players don’t mind risking HP to use its abilities.
7Guardian Corps And Knight Of Etro
These two have the exact same abilities to start off with and are a nice throwback to the previous games in the trilogy. The best thing about these two is that they’re also well-balanced like the Equilibrium garb, but they have four open slots versus Equilibrium’s three slots. This means players can pretty much customize these two garbs from scratch.
Players can take these two garbs in any direction they like. It will take some time to build them up to bethe best in their role, but if players love the aesthetic of these garbs, it’s worth the time.
6Equilibrium+
Lightning has always been known tobe a well-balanced fighterin both physical and magical power. Her first garb, the Equilibrium+, is arguably the best garb to continue this trend. While it’s basic compared to other garbs, it might just be what the players need. It has a few slots available so the player can customize it to their liking and style.
With it being the first garb Lightning has, players will have plenty of time to get familiar with its pros and cons. Just because of how versatile it can be makes it one of the best garbs in the game.
5Miqo’te Dress
This garb might look way out-of-character for Lightning, but it’s a pretty sweet garb for battle. It has the Mediguard+ abilitywhich will heal Lightningwhile she guards herself. While it does cost a little more than Mediguard, Mediguard+ has higher resistances. To top off on how amazing this garb is, the Magic Slash ability is one of the best abilities in the game. It works against enemies who are weak against physical and magical attacks. It can benefit from both Deprotect and Deshell which boosts its power even more.
It’s definitely worth completing the side quest to get this garb. It’s stylish and eye-catching, but the abilities it comes with make it a great garb to have.
4Spira’s Summoner
It’s a DLC garb, but it’s very worth getting. The Elementa ability that comes with this garb is so overpowered, it’s almost not fair for enemies. Just with this ability alone, players can end the battle very quickly and even later in the game, this garb is good for endgame content. That’s pretty much all there is to this garb that makes it amazing.

Pairing it with the right weapons and shields can easily make thisthe best magic-based garbin the game. If players were fortunate enough to pre-order it from Amazon back in 2013, they started off with a top-tier garb that made battle insanely easy.
3Cyber Jumpsuit
A garb that gives off futuristic vibes. The Cyber Jumpsuit not only looks cool but is one of the best garbs for endgame content. It has the Dispel ability which will allow players to debuff enemies and prevent them from getting stronger. Plus, this garb has reallygood physical and magical resistance.
If players are wanting to do endgame content, this garb is a must-have. Not only are the resistances great, but this garb also increases Lightning’s strength.
2Quiet Guardian
It might look a little plain, but this is one garb players should not overlook. Much like the Cyber Jumpsuit, the Quiet Guardian also has amazing physical and magical resistance. It has the Heavy Guard ability which willgreatly reduce damage taken, but at a high ATB cost. Compared to the Cyber Jumpsuit, the Quiet Guardian slightly outdoes it in use for battle. Dispel (which comes with the Cyber Jumpsuit) is more of a situational ability whereas Heavy Guard can be used at any time.
Most players have used the two garbs and made one for more physical damage and the other for being a mage. Plus, with the right equipment, both garbs could have, or near, 100% resistance to physical and spell damage.
1Soldier Of Peace
When it comes to visual appeal, the Soldier of Peace garb has divided fans if it looks good or not for a long time. Regardless, it’s definitely eye-catching and perhaps the best garb in the game. The one ability that makes this garb amazing: Artemis’s Arrows. If the player has Heavy Slash equipped, it’s changed to this ability and players will understand why.
A fully maxed out Artemis’s Arrows attack will utterly obliterate just about every enemy that’s unfortunate enough to be in the way. To add to the appeal of this garb, it also has the Shadowbind abilitywhich will deal physical damageand leave enemies unable to move for a short time. If players don’t mind the questionable aesthetic, the Soldier of Peace garb is worth getting and investing time into.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13is available on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android and iOS.
