Marvel’s Spider-Man 2continues to be a bonafide hit since its release for the PlayStation 5 in October. This much-awaited sequel and the first true entry of the franchise on the PS5 has managed to improve the overall experience of being the famous webslingers, and successfully set up the next stage of this particular pocket of theSpider-Manmultiverse.
Reddit user JurassicGuy5000 posted their in-game footage of the mission inHarry Osborn’s new Emily-May Foundation lab, in which he tours Peter Parker as he convinces him to take a position so that they can work together on conducting potential world-changing research. Peter is allowed to freely explore the lab at this point before proceeding with the next step of the mission. The particular detail is the elevator in the lab, which has a completely digital user interface. As the user stands before it, the panel on the door shows which floor the lift is at, then once they step in, they show a HUD with the floor list and a quick overview of the weather in New York City on that day.
A detail like this, while definitely interesting, does tend to be easily missed. Others who commented on JurassicGuy5000’s post say that they didn’t catch it at all as the game doesn’t bring players back to the lab until the next mission, in which it’s already getting destroyed by Kraven’s army of Hunters. With this, they bring up a criticism that the story isn’t paced very well, even with hours upon hours of the main campaign that spans a major arc in Peter and Harry’s lives. For example, despite the alien symbiote figuring heavily in the plot, fans have complained that the iconicVenom doesn’t actually get that much screen time inSpider-Man 2.
That may all change, as the unfortunate data breach that hit Insomniac’s servers does bring some good news to Spider-Man and Marvel fans. One of the projects in the studio’s pipeline isa game centered around Venom himself, which follows through on the character’s brief introduction. Between this future title and the already-announcedWolverinegame, it looks like Insomniac and its stellar track record have pretty much locked down some of the best of Marvel, making this a bit of a golden era for gamers and comics fans.
