Thane Krios is a squad member and romance option for those playing as a female Shepard inMass Effect 2, which is part ofMass Effect: Legendary Edition. After recruiting the drell assassin, his loyalty mission must be completed before players can start a romantic storyline with him.
This is the first time Thane has appeared in the franchise and is the only game where a full romance between him and Shepard can be experienced. There are scenes between the two inMass Effect 3, but they are not like other traditional romance subplots found inMass Effect: Legendary Edition, and do not count toward the “Paramour III” Trophy/Achievement.

How to Romance Thane in Mass Effect 2
There are two essential things players must do toromance Thane inMass Effect 2:
The first step in starting a relationship with Thane is to recruit him for thesuicide mission inMass Effect 2by heading to Illium. Players can choose any dialogue option during this mission, as nothing will lock out a relationship with the assassin at this time.
Once Thane has been recruited, he can be found in the Life Support Control Room on the Crew’s Quarters deck inthe Normandy inMass Effect 2. However, there won’t be an opportunity to start a romance with him until his loyalty mission has been completed. While on the mission,ensure Shepard tells Thane Talid’s correct locations before the timer runs out, or Talid will die and Thane will not become loyal to Shepard.
WhenThane’s loyalty mission inMass Effect 2is completed, players can now visit him in the Life Support Control Room to take the next steps in the duo’s relationship. Keep talking with Thane until the option to ask about him comes up, then pick it. He will go into detail about his wife more, and players canstart a relationship with Thane by choosing “I want you, Thane"when it appears.
Keep checking back with Thane after completing main missions and side quests, and the romantic subplot will eventually continue when players ask to talk about him again.Make sure to pick “I care for you too” to continue the romancewhen Thane admits the full extent of his feelings toward Shepard.
If players have also been pursuing aromance with Garrus inMass Effect 2, or Jacob, they will have to stop and tell Thane they only want him to continue their relationship. There is one additional short conversation Shepard can have with Thane about their feelings for each other.Pick “I’m fine” to continue romancing him.
How to Get Romance Scene With Thane
Once all the steps above have been completed and players are about to go on the suicide mission, Thane will come to Shepard’s quarters.The romance scene will occur no matter what, so feel free to choose any response.Thane must survive the trip through the Omega 4 Relay to appear inMass Effect 3after transferring this save. As previously mentioned, however, their conversations do not count toward the “Paramour III” Trophy/Achievement.
