In a recent interview with Game Rant,Minecraft Dungeonscreators Mans Olson, Nathan Rose, and Daniel Bjorkefors each reveal their favorite new mob in the upcoming dungeon crawling experience. Unsurprisingly, each creator had their own opinion on which new mob is the best. The newhack and slash genreof the game required the introduction of new monsters, and one of the challenges involved with the game’s creation was making sure the mobs still felt like they would fit inMinecraftwhile providing a varied experience.
For those unaware,Minecraft Dungeonsis slated to release at the end of this month, and one of the features that many are very excited about is the introduction of brand new mobs. For the most part,Minecrafthas stuck to its guns with zombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers as its main enemies, but all that changes withMinecraft Dungeons. Though only a select few mobs have been seen in trailers, gameplay, and promotional material, there will likely be more when the game releases.

Nathan Rose - Senior Project Manager: Chicken Jockey
Fans ofMinecraftmay recognize this mob, although it is extremely rare. The Chicken Jockey is essentially a baby zombie riding atop a chicken, and though this sounds relatively harmless, it is actually a dangerous combination. The Chicken Jockey is fast, can fit through small spaces, and does just as much damage as a regular zombie. InMinecraft Dungeons, these traits will likely translate directly. The Chicken Jockey will probably end up being a high speed, low health mob with decent damage. Whether or not it will be as rare is unclear, but this mob earns its place as Rose’s favorite mob inMinecraft Dungeons.
Måns Olson - Game Director: Necromancer
The Necromancer is one of the new mobs inMinecraft Dungeons, and earns its spot as the favorite mob of Olson. He says that this is his favorite mob because of how it affects gameplay, forcing the player to change up their strategy. The Necromancer has two main capabilities: it can fire projectiles at the player from a range, but is also capable of summoning undead minions. These two traits together will prove challenging for players to deal with according to Olson, as players will need to find a way to get to the necromancer despite the volley of projectiles and thehorde of undead blocking the way. In his own words,
“I think I’m a big fan of our Necromancer mob. It is also new to dungeons, it’s this kind of spooky looking skeleton mage that summons undead, shoots projectiles at you. And I like it perhaps mostly for what it does for the game play. It provides a different pace and change in how you have to position yourself and approach the combat scenario that I think is interesting.”

Daniel Bjorkefors - Art Director: Key Golem
Before any of the creators answered this question, they all agreed that the Key Golem is by far their favorite mob in the game.Minecraft Dungeons' Key Golem has become a sort of themascot of the game, as it exemplifies the “ugly cute” mentality ofMinecraft. The Key Golem will be players' main way of opening locked doors and gates, but it must first be caught. If the player hits the Key Golem while it is running away, it will get strapped to their back where the poor Key Golem will scream and squirm until used to unlock a door. Bjorkefors claimed this as his favorite of allMinecraft Dungeonsmobs.
Minecraft Dungeons Mobs
Minecraft Dungeonstrailers and gameplay have shown numerous other mobs as well. Of course, classics like the Creeper, Skeleton, and Zombie will still make appearances, but new faces definitely appear. Many have already been announced or encountered in the closed beta, such as the Redstone Golem, the Mooshroom Monstrosity, and of course, the game’s main antagonist, the Arch-Illager. It will be interesting to see how other mobs affect theplayers' experience inMinecraft Dungeons.
