The Game Awards is a show known for its reveals as well as the rewards it gives out to the achieving games of a given year. 2021’s Game Awards was no different, and gave gaming fans some interesting reveals for upcoming titles, with one of those games being Monolith’sWonder Woman. Previously known for theMiddle Earth: Shadow of MordorandShadow of Wargames,Monolith Productions has a proven track recordfor creating engaging open-world titles with an emphasis on combat.

Considering bothThe Lord of the RingsandWonder Womanfranchises are owned by Warner Bros, it didn’t seem too far a jump for WB Games and Monolith to work on aWonder Womantitle next. According to previous news and leaks on the upcomingWonder Womangame, it will follow a similar style to theShadow of MordorandShadow of Wargames, featuring an open-world, with action oriented gameplay. Many likenedShadow of MordorwiththeBatman: Arkhamfranchiseupon the former’s release, which means that the same formula of gameplay could also easily fit aWonder Womangame.

There’s also the famous “Nemesis System,” which randomly generated enemies that a player would face inShadow of Mordor. This meant that no two playthroughs of the game would be the same, with different players encountering different rosters of orcs. InWonder Woman, the"Nemesis System" is reportedly returning, though to see these returning gameplay elements, fans may be waiting longer than they had first thought.

A recent job posting by Monolith for a Senior World Designer has some fans worried that they may not see theWonder Womangame in 2022. The position is a 2-Year Temporary contract and though it does not stateWonder Womanis the primary focus of the role, there doesn’t seem to be any other projects that Monolith is working on. It’s possible that this role will include both the lead up toWonder Woman’srelease and beyond, yet it seems unlikely a World Designer will be needed much beyond the launch of the game.

While fans may soon be disappointed to find out the release ofWonder Womancould be delayed, there are plenty of otherDC games to be excited about in 2022, such as the open-world action gameGotham Knightsand the highly anticipatedSuicide Squadgame developed byBatman Arkhamdeveloper Rocksteady.

Wonder Womanis currently in development.
